To be embarrassed at my Facebook

OMG I am absolutely cringing at myself. So. Many. Posts. I haven’t really ‘updated my status’ for the best part of ten years but they were still all there. Me trying to be funny and cool and flippant but read years later they reek of desperation. Photos of shit no one cares about. Like empty glasses of wine and cups of coffee next to a notebook. Then when I had ds I got completely carried away with baby spam.

I have deleted all but a few. Cathartic but cringey as well.

I wouldn’t worry, if they’re 10+ years old that’s pretty normal. That’s how most people used their social media back in the day!

Pippa12 · 22/10/2026 13:33

Ha! Me and my sister said the same thing. But the majority were doing the same 10-15 years ago that were on fb. My feed was flooded by peoples posts opposed to ‘creator content’ and advertisements. I enjoyed reading them at the time, I haven’t updated my ‘status’ for years!

Sign of the times.

It’s all part of your journey my lovely.

Looking back on our past is difficult and when there is a social media catalogue of it can seem overwhelming. But so many others would have been doing the same. I’m sure most of those posts were funny and cool. If they seem dated now it’s because you have moved on

It’s good you have found it cathartic to delete some posts. But do that for yourself, not because you are ashamed of your journey. The fact you have insight suggests nothing really was that bad!

I really wish you well.

embarrasssedd · 22/10/2026 13:58

Haha thanks … it probably wasn’t that bad. I think it’s just so cringey looking at it from nearly twenty years on!

I haven’t posted in 14 years and like you I have deleted a lot of crap, I rarely posted anyway, but god some of it’s awful.

MadMAGA · 22/10/2026 14:18

Ha, yes! The "memories" feature brings back some very cringey content. I keep it as a reminder that I've come a long way. PPs are also right that that kind of thing was completely normal for the time.

achristmaswish · 22/10/2026 14:22

It's the tagged photos of drunking nights out that make me cringe, stuck on my Facebook forever.

paradisecircus · 22/10/2026 14:23

Ha ha, I relate to this. I used to put up a status pretty much every day, trying to be funny and encourage people to interact. They come up as memories now and I just think 'I'm glad I stopped that.'

Crystallllll · 22/10/2026 14:27

There is an option to hide everything on your timeline. Not that I ever posted much but seems weird now.

Westpoint · 22/10/2026 14:38

I'd still rather see the genuine posts from people (even if you do think it's cringey now!) than the endless AI slop, advertising and influencer nonsense wanting us all to post some stupid word to get a link to the crap they're peddling.........bring back the FB of old I say!!

Goldengirl123 · 22/10/2026 21:16

Don’t worry. Nobody will remember

Yep. Very rare I see proper friend posts. It's all shite and if you delete it .Facebook wants to know why. Since meta has flooded it with AI, it's practically unusable.

I see memories from before I lost my eldest and it's like reading from a different person. Nothing cringe I don't think but I'll never be that person again.

Nobody remembers your posts. They barely remember their own OP.

whatanuglythingtosay · 22/10/2026 21:25

Tale as old as time. Ask anyone who kept a diary or journal as a teenager! (Though to be fair those were/are usually kept private, but the cringe factor can be off the charts.)

I wouldn't have deleted them, personally. You or your DC might have liked to go back and look through them someday. They don't sound any worse than average, so I don't see the harm in leaving them up.
