To be unable to disconnect from DDs friendship troubles

I have teen/young adult 3 DDs and over the years they have had the typical friendship issues. DD1 is ND and has had more than her fair share, and the other two the usual friendship wobbles, leaving out.

Today DD2 15 has been left out by her usual group of friends (3 of them) She’s upset and I have to say I really find it so hard not to be so anxious and upset for them. I’m careful not to show it , but this teen girl phase is just so hard.

Funnily enough my friendships growing up were easy so I just don’t recognise any of these mean behaviours.

Anyone else the same ?

Me too. Teenage girls today are really spiteful and cold

Aren’t they @Gmhopkins and I am wondering if I have made a mistake in raising mine to be straightforward and nice!

It’s hard as I’m the same as you, my teen friendships were just funny. I don’t get all the angst

I am so sick of being stressed by it @Disturbia81 . I need to find a way of disconnecting and just leaving them
at it !

I have boys but my friends with girls say this.
Do you think we just didn’t share it so much with our parents when we were growing up?
Saying that I didn’t hang out with bitchy people as a teen. I loved my friends. Still have many of them!

Cerisequeen · 21/10/2026 23:27

Oh we definitely shared way less with our parents and also didn’t know when we were being left out (no snapchat !!)

I also think we just let stuff wash over us , less ruminating

I think stuff washed over us because we left that school and all was forgotten by the next day. Now it follows you home and carries on all

It is hard but stepping away is the best thing to do.

We have more and more threads expressing the growing societal issue with young adults struggling to deal with all issues of life, unable to take responsibility and expecting others to deal with their problems on their behalf.

However heartbreaking it is to see our children navigating through their problems and getting the urge to sort them out for them, we have to let them learn to manage on their own. That doesn't mean not caring, we must be there to listen and even provide them with various suggestions on how they can deal with it, but they must do it themselves.
