Weight loss comments

I’ve lost over 4 stone and I’ve had the usual have you lost weight comments but also some like you’re losing weight by the week. And make sure you don’t lose too much. Is it normal to feel a bit awkward with things like that? Has any one else had that experience?

The 'make sure you don't lose too much' is the only part of that, that would irk me.

The rest is just observation, like 'Have you had your hair cut?'

SilenceInside · 21/10/2026 13:33

Yes, I hate any comments about it and I have lost 11st so people do tend to want to say something. I answer briefly and change the topic.

"Make sure you don't lose to much" is particularly irritating. That was said to me when I was still 16 stone for goodness sake! I was hardly skinny. I cannot fathom why some people's brains don't intercept that thought process and get them to think twice before saying it.

SexyFrenchDepression · 21/10/2026 13:33

Make sure you don't lose too much isso annoying. What they mean is make sure you don't get slimmer than me!!

Who gives a shit if the OP is on WLI (in reference to 1st post). A supposedly close friend of mine was questioning a mutual friend about my 4 stone weight loss and said it is 'disgusting' if I was on WLI and that we know her feelings about them. WTAF, how would it be disgusting 😂

Majority of people are actually lovely about people losing weight but I think we tend to focus on the negative people.

I’ve done it naturally, still have a stone to go

Yes I have the same too at the moment (and the people saying it are overweight). I’m not sure why they think it’s OK to say ‘don’t lose any more weight’ when I wouldn’t dream of saying ‘don’t put any more weight on’!

Ive lost almost 13 stone. Was huge, am still fairly large. I would only be annoyed by the "dont lose too much" which ive had in variations. Im still 11 stone (and 5"4!) So im still considered overweight. But women who i know who are 7/8/9 stone overweight say to me... youve lost too much! Youre looking scrawny.

This is an interesting one as I never comment on anyone’s obvious weight loss after a friend told me that the memory of everyone’s congratulatory comments made her feel terrible once she started gaining weight (after a big loss). But I do worry now that other friends who are clearly trying to lose weight think I’m being rude/ odd when I’m not noticing/ congratulating them.

There is a jealousy over losing weight, that's the problem. A jealousy/ envy that you're doing something positive for yourself where they maybe aren't. I get the same with the gym and exercise - don't do too much, ooh running is bad for you, you need to rest you know.... F off!!

Nobody ever says 'you need to be careful eating those biscuits every night!' they say 'treat yourself!'. It's insane when you think about it

I lost 28kg, and have been the same weight for about a year now. I haven't had anyone tell me not to lose more weight, haha, does that mean I still look fat?? 🤣

I actually don't think that at all, I have been eating protein and lifting weights, so I don't look tiny, I don't have that 'deflated' look people often get with weight loss, I am an hourglass, with boobs and a curvy bum but toned looking legs and shoulders and whatnot, so that stops the don't lose too much comments, I think I just look so fit and healthy.

The comments that wind me up the most are the "you have lost a lot of weight", said as a statement, not a compliment, as though they don't approve or don't like it. I just react in a really smiley positive way and say "aww... Thank you sooo much, yes, I have lost weight, so kind of you to notice and say". They normally then stutter and say "no, but you have really lost a LOT of weight" and even though I want to say "oh bugger off, it's not THAT much weight, I was a size 16 and physically fit, it's not like I was bariatric!!" Instead I say "actually, I have been the same weight for a year, but all the weight lifting means my body has really changed shape, I'm so pleased that all my hard work is noticeable, I really appreciate you taking the time to say, I know my efforts are working"

It's the ones who are trying to have a dig, but I just don't let them get to me, I am sure I offend them far more by being so pleased with their comments 🤣

Ive lost 6 stone that I really needed to lose and one of my patients said to me today that I looked awful and not womanly any more.
I dont really care Id rather not have a heart attack and a stroke just because someone else likes me fat better. But I did feel annoyed that someone would comment on my weight.
When I was fat everyone said Id look so much better if I lost weight. You cant win.
