Am I missing something here ? DLA

I sent ds DLA renewal off earlier this year, came back fine and actually was given the higher rate this time round. I’ve checked my bank this morning (today is the usual payment day) and it seems to be short, they’ve paid £503.80 but in the letter it says we should be getting more than that? £144.90 a week.
Don’t know if I’m being thick and I’ve worked it out wrong in the first place?
Has anyone had this before ?

Did hou factor in that the new payment rate starts from the 7th of October? So prior to the 7th you'll get the old rate and from the 7th you'll get the new rate.

Sorry I’m autistic and struggle with my understanding sometimes, could you explain to me what that would mean ?

I am guessing that - if is paid monthly and today is the usual payment day- the first part of the month was paid at the old rate, and only from the 7th , a couple of weeks, at the new.

Dearg · 20/10/2026 07:33

Can you tell us the old weekly rate ? Then we can help to work out the pro-data amount for this first payment.

I can’t remember exactly what the weekly rate was but it was £428 every 4 weeks and that was middle rate and low mobility

That’s helpful.

So it looks that the payment covers the 4 weeks to 20th -

23rd Sept - 29th - £107 (old rate)
30th Sept -6 th Oct - £107
7th Oct - 13th Oct - £144.90
14th Oct - 2th - £144.90
Total £503.80

Your DH will get £579.60 on his next 4 week payment date .

Hope that helps .

Sorry to sound picky but it's every 4 weeks. Unless the payment day falls on a bank holiday it's paid the same day all the time

Sorry I should’ve told you the last payment date was the 22nd September. Does this make it any different ?

Does this mean they have underpaid me for some reason ?

No, that makes sense. Old rate payable up to 6th Oct, new rate from Oct 7th.

Next payment would be Tuesday 17 Nov, and it should be £579.60.

Thank you ! I was so confused 😆

You have been paid correctly. Your next payment will be as expected. You've got a few weeks paid at the lower rate and a few weeks at the higher rate this time. Next time you'll get exactly what you expect.

Can I ask, did you get help to fill in the forms or did you do it yourself? I need to do them but I keep procrastinating because I feel a bit overwhelmed by them.

No I did them myself with lots of online tools, if I tried to do it alone I wouldn’t have gone into much detail if that makes sense? The online templates helped me realise what kind of things I should be telling them about. My tip would be to take your time with the firm as it’s long and if you rush through it you might end up missing things out

It's been paid at a combined rate of the previous award and the new one, as its weekly paid though paid every 4 weeks in arrears. The next payment will be at the full new amount.

Yes you’re right. Dh calculated it for me, it’s two weeks of the old payment and two weeks of the new one. I’d be lost without Mumsnet and dh lol

Sorry? 4 weeks and 1 month aren't the same thing

Did you actually call someone a pedantic arse when the time detail (4 weeks is not a month) is the key factor in OPs question? Are you not embarrassed?

Sorry, how is it pedantic to point out that the benefit is paid every 28 days and not monthly ? There is a difference of two or three days depending on the month and the little details matter.

Do you mind me asking how long it took from you sending the renewal for off and them deciding, please? Just about to send DD’s renewal off
