To ask for your opinions on the activewear I’ve bought?!

I’m desperate to get back into the gym and I need all new activewear because mine is worn out and grotty. So I’ve done a big old shop with the aim of wearing it to the gym but also as casual wear. What are peoples opinions please?! I’m plus size and don’t want to look stupid in the gym! The gym bag will be my everyday bag - I’ll be going to the gym before work.

AIBU to be buying this?! Will I look stupid?!

YABU - you should just stick to plain t shirts. You’ll look silly.

YANBU - go for it girl

They're completely fine, just standard workout wear. Once they arrive if you try them on and are comfortable in them then go for it. Good luck with your new routine.

I know it’s sad but I feel like name brands aren’t for me, because I’m plus sized

I think name brands are a bit pointless when you're only going to sweat into them! The most important thing when exercising is to be comfortable, otherwise it's just another reason not to want to do it. As long as you like them that is all that matters.

I just hope the quality will be better than my worn out Primark ones!

I prefer plain to the big AY whatever logo but I don’t see why you would look stupid in them.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 18/10/2026 19:03

If you’re going to feel good in them, go for it.
I’ve got bits from Asda, M&S, Adidas, New Balance but mainly Sweaty Betty and if I like them, that’s all that matters! Check out the Adidas Liberty collection, yep I wear some of that to yoga, then after!

Whowouldwanttobeateacher · 18/10/2026 19:04

You will be absolutely fine.

CatamaranViper · 18/10/2026 19:09

I presume you won't be wearing the jumpers in the gym.
I always wear gym shark workout t-shirts and leggings because I sweat like mad, and they wash and dry very easily.
As long as what you have is supportive, comfortable and functional then you'll look absolutely fine. The people who look daft are the ones who put style over substance and are clearly uncomfortable

Krevlornswath · 18/10/2026 19:09

It's just leggings and t-shirts/sweatshirts no? Can't see what could possibly be controversial about them or make anyone look silly. Nobody is really looking in the gym anyway, despite how it feels.

The only observation I'd make is that if you're exercising in them then I'd have probably gone for clothing in breathable fabrics and bought some vests or sleeveless tops. I understand that it can feel more psychologically comfortable to cover up but at the same time it's not very comfortable to be hot and sweaty when exercising. These look more like comfy loungewear to me, but certainly aren't anything anyone would look silly in.

TheGreatDownandOut · 18/10/2026 19:11

If you will feel good in the them and they’ll spur you on to go to the gym then go for it! You won’t look silly! It’s activewear and you’re wearing it to be active. It’s literally what it’s for

£75 for a polar fleece that is likely made from nylon! 😮

I have no idea what brand you are buying, but you could have ordered/picked up items from supermarkets/high street for about 1/4 of that price. I say this as someone who was until very recently, wearing size 20/22. If you love the brand/fit though, fair enough. To answer your question, the items are fine for gym wear.

LifeBeginsToday · 18/10/2026 19:31

The items are fine, but I don't buy brands for the name, I buy named brands for the quality and thickness. Especially with leggings.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 18/10/2026 19:35

Completely fine / standard gym attire

I dont like baggy cotton tees personally because I swear for England...

UnaOfStormhold · 18/10/2026 19:37

Ultimately you need something you feel physically and mentally comfortable wearing so that you feel able to be active, so if those clothes tick that box for you go for it. However I would seriously consider spending a bit of money making sure you have a good, well fitted sports bra. This will make a huge difference to your comfort when exercising.

What you've bought would be fine but seems expensive and not necessarily designed to be comfortable when sweaty. Plus all being well you'll be wanting smaller sizes soon! Decathlon is great for cheap but effective clothing that's designed for sports rather than being leisure wear.

MyFavouriteGame · 18/10/2026 20:00

I have a mixture of Gymshark, Nike, Adidas, Aybl and Tesco tracksuits. AybI I find do size very small. My favourites are Adidas and Tesco! I often wear joggers and a gym top.

Wear what makes you feel good.

StickyProblem · 18/10/2026 20:10

I put YABU because honestly nobody cares what you wear. You will hopefully not feel self-conscious for very long once you get started.
I go to a gym with loads of stunning glamourous youngsters and you can’t go wrong with black.

UndoRedo · 18/10/2026 20:18

I'm plus size and a gym goer, I wear a mix of asos and primark. I don't tend to wear baggy ts, but just wear what ever you feel good in. Those clothes will be fine, no one really notices labels in gyms

wizzler · 18/10/2026 23:12

Those are all fine for the gym. The main thing is that they are comfortable in them. Agree with a pp that you need a good sports bra. Imo people who are exercising the
mselves don’t really care what others are wearing, it’s more about how you feel in them
