I’m due to be travelling to Paris in the somewhat near future. Should I just call it off?! The news looks absolutely terrifying!

Anyone? Is it unreasonable to go?

You'll be fine. It was mostly a weekend thing this time.

BandyUrnham · 18/10/2026 13:52

Go to Paris, Texas instead.

RingsLikeTinnitis · 18/10/2026 13:52

I'm unsure, we're going a week today and unless something extreme happens we'll still be going

cartagenagina · 18/10/2026 13:53

I would still go.

travailtotravel · 18/10/2026 13:58

Seriously, I was in Montpellier yesterday and then Paris. All very easy to avoid. There's stuff going on for sure, and its serious, but still completely ok to travel.

It just looks awful on the news. Whole cities up in flames!

Oh god, ive been so busy laughing at the French and their rioting ways that i hadn't even thought that means that Paris might be off the menu this winter 😩

Ilmiocompleanno · 18/10/2026 15:10

How soon are you due to be travelling? If it's not today/tomorrow I would keep an eye on the news and decide nearer the time. The reason why you're going is also relevant. City break in Paris? Or travelling via Paris to get somewhere else? Or meeting up with someone/in Paris for a work event?

Missingpate · 18/10/2026 15:14

We are going on Thursday for the weekend and not worried. Word on the ground is that it’s settled today and the unrest is only in certain areas, not the tourist areas. Unless anything dramatic changes we are going as planned.

Greenseawitch · 18/10/2026 15:29

Of course you should go.

It is not a war zone and the media are always picking up on the worst bits of any protests.

Remember the riots across the UK in 2011.? The way the media, who don't let any story go in exaggerated, showed it the whole of Britain was collapsing.

Go, avoid the trouble spots, the French police will deal with it. Walk away from an protests and you will be fine

I posted this on another thread but it's a guy reviewing Paris bakeries during the last big lot of riots they had.
I don't think it's necessarily a good idea to wonder through where the actual protests/riots are happening but usually they are located in a few areas and besides there isn't much direct threat to bystanders anyway. It would be different if tourists were the focus of the protests for example.
