Aibu to think all of these SM videos of young children filmed by parents are just bloody awful?

I really just don't understand why some parents subscribe to channels like tik tok/you tube etc to show continuous videos of their own children for views.

Have just come across another one filming their (clearly autistic) DC reacting to a prank first day at school.

You are not allowed to present yourself in SM until a certain age so what's the difference from adults showing DC them?

We all think our DC are cute, our ND ones are quirky, but keep our lives private, whattsapp groups amongst ourselves.

I just think, poor kids, they have no idea their childhood is being shown to the world for everyone to see.

Keep it private, show your DC these memories, which every single child/teenager I've ever known have found embarrassing to even watch themselves and find cringe!

In the days of just camera photos, we would toe curl and say don't let anyone else see that photo.

So, to have these on display for the public is horrendous 😳 they have no say in the matter. I'm not talking about the ridiculous consenting of changing a nappy from a baby (what a pathetic and unrealistic thing to have been created) rather a fundamental issue that a DC will likely already feel embarrassed at a photo/vid, so having them online for their future friends/teachers/everyone to see is simply soul destroying.

i agree. It’s baffling how people post their children online with not a care in the world of who could be watching and saving those videos, plus, those poor kids can’t event consent to being filmed let alone presented to thousands, sometimes millions of strangers. It’s disgusting.

Yep parents seem to forget that one day little Tarquin will be at senior school where kids can be fucking vile...and him saying something stupid or falling over or kissing the dog will be used...

People watching posts should take some responsibility. If watching these posts was frowned upon enough, people would stop posting them. The platforms allow it to be lucrative for parents which frankly should be illegal because it's exploitative. But then SM platforms don't give a shit about anything and have zero morals so won't ever care until it's legislated against.

Stop watching them. It’s only profitable for them if they have viewers, even people viewing it because they disagree with them are part of the problem

LunarMarmalade · 17/10/2026 22:57

Yes, it's horrible and exploitative that this goes on.

I saw a post by Nabela Noor (?) today where she posted a picture of her young daughters at a medical “check up”.

The photo was just a close up of their arms, legs and feet (you could literally see the baby hair on the skin, it was so zoomed in) as they sat in their medical “gowns”.

I just can’t understand the need to zoom into children’s feet and post it online… why? Have we learned nothing?

There’s quite a large content creator on instagram with a really large following. I followed her at first because I loved her aesthetic, she has cute cats and dogs and I just generally liked her vibe. But after about a year of following her I realised just how much she uses her son for content and I can’t stand her now. He’s a really sensitive boy, seems to have a lot of behavioural issues/possibly neurodivergent and she shares SO much about him and his various issues with her followers. I mean literally everything. His meltdowns, his allergies, how he’s refusing to go into school. Every tiny detail of his life splashed onto social media under the guise of wanting to ‘share and help other parents’. It’s bullshit. He’s a child and he’s vulnerable and no matter how you dress it up, it’s exploitation. He can’t consent and even if he says he does, he doesn’t understand the implications of agreeing to have his childhood splashed all over social media. It’s honestly vile and I can’t understand how no one else calls her out for it, but I know if I comment I’ll get torn to shreds by her followers!
