Partner and alcohol

My partner was going out for lunch with friends and said he would have a couple of drinks. I had plans to go to a concert a 8pm so he would be back in time to look after our 3 year old and 7 month old. He had 6 pints over the afternoon and I don’t feel comfortable leaving the kids alone with someone who’s had that much to drink. He said he feels totally fine and I’m being “ridiculous”.

My event had been in the diary months ago, but I was fine with him only having a couple of drinks. I knew if I went I would only worry “what if”. Not that it matters but i breastfeed our baby to sleep, she doesn’t take a bottle and I haven’t had any time without her since she’s born. I’m very tired (she’s an awful sleeper), clearly a bit anxious and now feel deflated and upset as I didn’t go tonight. My partner doesn’t Feel he’s done anything wrong. What would others have done?

Thats awful for you OP, very disappointing . I wouldn't have been happy leaving children in the care of someone who had drunk so much. Drunk people rarely recognise how much the alcohol impairs their judgement and abilities.
Is he in the habit of drinking to excess? Does he often let you down in this way?

No he doesn’t normally drink to excess. It’s the first time I’ve made plans to leave the baby and go out by myself for longer than an hour. That’s sad I know but it’s hard when the baby is attached to my boob 😂 I think him not seeing an issue with it has upset me just as much as not going. Don’t know if I’m being too dramatic

He prioritised his plans over yours. He could have behaved and had two pints but chose not to.

selfish.

There is no way I'd have left him on his own wirh the kids

Ask him if he wants to seek a social workers opinion on it.

Of course you aren't being dramatic OP .
Your first evening out and one that had been preplanned for quite a while and he totally sabotaged it.
If he says can't see the issue then the worrying thing is it is very likely to happen again.
