AIBU to think that 15 degrees inside is cold not cool?

It's 15.2 degrees upstairs and 16 degrees downstairs.

A bedroom window had been left open all day. By DH. Not helpful.

I'm freezing. I suggested putting the heating on. The heating isn't working properly at the moment so we can only heat the whole house, rather than upstairs and downstairs, individually.

DH thinks it's a problem to heat upstairs on the basis it's meant to be "cool" upstairs. He hates a warm bedroom. I say there's a huge difference between cool and cold, and 15 degrees inside a house is bloody freezing.

Am I being unreasonable?!

I absolutely love hot weather, hotter the better, but we don’t put our heating on until at least the end of November!
This year we’re away for most of December so our heating won’t be going on until we’re home.
we have all our windows open at the moment and when we go to bed we close the downstairs ones and keep upstairs open, our bathroom windows never get closed

I’m with your DH nothing worse than a hot bedroom!

My bad I interpreted it that they had two thermostats one for upstairs and one for downstairs. Usually you can isolate a single radiator regardless of what your thermostat controls. Sounds like a seriously messed up heating system that OP has then.

Yeah, you were right with your interpretation but, also, we can't alter the individual radiators.

We've had a new boiler, kept the split system, and had the Hive installed but one of the electric boxes has failed.

At some point we'll have individual controls put on the radiators but it's an old system and the pipework isn't a conventional size so might be quite a big job.

Our heating is set to come on at 15 degrees overnight. I find it too cold in the daytime though (although DH would be quite comfortable at that temperature). We have the heating set to 18 degrees if we are home during the day - it usually gets a bit warmer than that upstairs.

Gealach · Yesterday 22:59

I’ve our hive set to 18 degrees. I don’t think the heating has come on yet. But I’d find 15 degrees a bit miserable. It’s doable but misery.

RedThroatedWarbler · Yesterday 22:59

15 is not freezing. It is a little on the cool side but definitely not freezing, literally and metaphorically speaking. In the summer, I would still be sitting outside in the evening in short sleeves at that temperature.

15 is miserable.

My bedroom is 21, windows shut although the trickle vent is open and I'm in a thick sweater in bed.

Our thermostat clicks in if lower than 16 during the daytime (when we are out at work) or the nighttime (when we are sleeping). The evening and early part of tge morning (awake to breakfast) is 21. If I am home alone all day or wfh I might turn it up about 4ish if I'm chilly, but generally not. I don't feel the cold, but DH does so 15/16 and sometimes not 21, does not work for him downstairs in the evening. But bedrooms are different, cool is good

Liverpoolxxx · Yesterday 23:08

I find it depends. I can be feeling cold when the room reads 24 or can be feeling ok with just a blanket on at 14.

15⁰ is fine for a bedroom but bloody freezing for a living room 😬

Yes I don't mind a cold bedroom because I am in bed but I hate a cold living room

Maisymouse2 · Yesterday 23:25

Cold.
Men are always stingy with heating and put a top on comments...turn the heating on.

ILoveKits · Yesterday 23:34

15° is put a cardigan on.
Our heating is timed: 5.30 to 8.15; 17.00 to 22.30. Thermostat set to 18. Never swotch it off, it comes on as required.
At weekends, if it's chilly, we put a log or two on.
When I work from home, I just heat the study.
The heating is off at night, unless we have a big freeze when it's put to about 15 overnight.

Heat the house , turn off the bedroom rads or leave window open and shut the doors
