AIBU to think that 15 degrees inside is cold not cool?

It's 15.2 degrees upstairs and 16 degrees downstairs.

A bedroom window had been left open all day. By DH. Not helpful.

I'm freezing. I suggested putting the heating on. The heating isn't working properly at the moment so we can only heat the whole house, rather than upstairs and downstairs, individually.

DH thinks it's a problem to heat upstairs on the basis it's meant to be "cool" upstairs. He hates a warm bedroom. I say there's a huge difference between cool and cold, and 15 degrees inside a house is bloody freezing.

Am I being unreasonable?!

15 is not a comfortable inside temp , even if you have a warm bed, 15 is cold…..😝

DoAWheelie · Yesterday 20:22

I'd be shivering like crazy with my joint pain flaring up at 16.

I can't sleep in the heat and prefer my bedroom cooler but that's still 18ish Vs the 21ish I prefer the living room at.

ToKittyornottoKitty · Yesterday 20:22

Id put a jumper on and stick a hot water bottle in the bed personally. 15 degrees is not bloody freezing

Needacalminginfluence · Yesterday 20:23

I keep my house fairly cool OP but even my heating is set to come on when the temperature gets down to 15°. I'm currently sat with a blanket over my knees and the temperature in my living room sitting at. 15 .5° and it's definitely not particularly comfortable.
So yes i think you have a point and your H is being unreasonable

My bedroom was also approx 15 degrees. Windows open. I like a cool bedroom and have a fan on and windows open all year round but it was chilly after my shower!

Some on here will tell you that they sit in around in shorts and T-shirt at that temp though. I don’t believe most of those people, or don’t believe their thermometer is correct.

15 is cold. I’m ok with a cool house but I would definitely have the heating on anywhere below 17. Especially in the evening.

Thingcanonlygetbetter · Yesterday 20:25

It is not cool or cold it would be freezing in my book

mamaof4losingmymind · Yesterday 20:26

15 is really cold ours is currently 19.7 and comfortable

Dearg · Yesterday 20:26

Absolutely not being unreasonable.

Overnight, if the indoor ( insulated , granite house) drops below 14c the heating will come on. Generally , in my house, that would mean the outdoor temp was below zero . 15c is cold , to me ( and I am Scottish) . I don’t heat our bedroom though.

During the day, heating off, this time of year, will be about 18c, and the heating would kick in if it falls to 16c.

Everyone is different, every house is different, but 15c indoors, out of direct sunlight, sounds chilly.

Tulipvase · Yesterday 20:26

Can’t you turn the radiator off in the bedroom?

LakieLady · Yesterday 20:27

I'd be bloody freezing!

I feel cold if it drops below 20, and even 20 feels a bit chilly.

chirrupybird · Yesterday 20:29

Too cold for me, it may drop through the night but at least I want to get into bed when the bedroom is warm. Bedrooms were freezing when I was young I remember the ice on the inside of the windows, not any more for me if I can help it.

OhBettyCalmDown · Yesterday 20:31

I think 15 is cold. ‘Cool’ is 18 but anything less than that feels cold to me. Plus it starts to give me neck ache. Can you pop the heating on just to raise it a few degrees and maybe chuck another duvet over your side of the bed.

Createausername1970 · Yesterday 20:35

My DS was insistent that 15/16 was a reasonable temperature (we both work from home) and I was insistent that 18 should be the point at which the heating came on. Typing whilst wearing fingerless gloves and shivering without a duvet over my legs was not ideal.

The difference of opinion was solved by a builder friend who said if we regularly let the temp drop below 16 then we could potentially experience damp problems. The heating now comes on if it drops below 18 during the main part of the day and below 7 overnight

Yes OP, 16 is cold, but if it's an accidental one-off it's OK. I would be muttering about damp problems if it persisted.

AlicePottery · Yesterday 20:35

15⁰ is fine for a bedroom but bloody freezing for a living room 😬

Oioiqueen · Yesterday 20:37

Turn your bedroom thermostat down and shut the door. The rest of the house can be heated and he doesn't get to whinge about the bedroom.

Zanatdy · Yesterday 20:37

I’d be putting the heating on. My bedroom is currently a nice 22.

Sherararara · Yesterday 20:38

You have radiators don’t you? Turn them
off upstairs.

Seziah · Yesterday 21:09

Yes I think it’s cold. I like a cool bedroom too but 15° would be too cold for me, that is a morning temperature not a going to bed temperature. I would turn down the bedroom thermostat and put the heating on

Tootsurly · Yesterday 21:12

The heating isn't working properly at the moment so we can only heat the whole house, rather than upstairs and downstairs, individually.

Have you or your DH organised for someone to come and sort this out?

Fiftyandme · Yesterday 21:27

most would find it cold. I find it heavenly

thenightsky · Yesterday 21:30

I judge cold by my extremities. I'm ok if my main body is cool. Once my nose is cold and it hurts to breathe cold air through it, then I'm fucked and can't get warm again without external heat such as a hot water bottle or microwave heat pack directly on my face.

Minasama · Yesterday 21:30

15 is freezing and won’t keep the house in the best condition. Personally I think 18 is minimum comfortable, though bedroom can be cooler.
He can open the bedroom window if it’s too hot.

Nincompoo · Yesterday 21:31

15° is fine for me when i’m tucked up in bed under a 15tog duvet… otherwise it’s too cold to be comfortable.

MyMoneyIsAllSpent · Yesterday 21:31

Actually my detached house is very well insulated, so I have been told, but rarely have heating much above 15,
obviously increase it if it’s colder. Not much above 20 though.
