Moving abroad has made me realise how bloody dire the UK is

We moved abroad 4 months ago and after the normal wobbles and adjustments I am now shocked at how different (and much better!) life is. We have considerably more spending money despite paying for private school and healthcare (which are much much better than the UK). It’s safer, considerably cleaner, better public services and much better food quality.

already I can’t see us ever going back and already want to explore somewhere new eventually! But if anyone is feeling low and despondent about the uk which we really were and gets an opportunity (or has a transferable job) I would 100000% recommend looking into it.

i wish we had done it 10 years ago tbh. AIBU to never come back bar the odd visit to see family and friends?!

Not my cup of tea. Dubai and Oman. Id rather stay here. Love the UK.

Yep. I would never even visit those countries, let alone live there.

I give the OP 2 years. She will be back.

OonaStubbs · Today 19:02

We need to look at countries like Oman and see what we can learn from them, instead of just dismissing them because they are in the Middle-East.

It is dirty. I feel like the country has just given up and has no pride in itself anymore

Errr, speak for yourself. Where I live is lovely.

Of course it is.

Rituelec · Today 19:03

My friends were there as teachers and have just moved back. No longer felt safe in ME.

To sneer at people who live in the UK and never leave (and don't want to leave,) and make out where she has moved to is so much better.

Rather her than me. Go and live in Oman? No thank you!

We have the “rule of law”? No, I honestly don’t think we do. I was robbed recently, the police did nothing. No phone call, nothing, just an email to say the “case was closed”. That is the second time that has happened to me. Gangs of organised criminals operate without fear in the UK.

@ilovemylogburner what I meant is that if you are arrested and charged in the uk you will receive a trial. You will not simply be chucked in a hole on the ground and/or tortured. You will be given a lawyer, a right of appeal. These things cannot be taken for granted in many, many countries.

Errr, yes it is actually.. Why on earth is it so hard to believe that some people in the UK live in nice areas? What an odd and narrow minded attitude.

I am sorry where you live is not very nice.

Maybe you could move?

thesungodra · Today 19:04

I could never live in a country where legislation explicitly favours men and it is illegal to be gay.

True. But, criminals roam the streets here, unchecked. Hardly ideal, is it?

In fairness she probably lives in a working class area. They don't tend to be very prideful of their community living spaces in those areas. It's just easier to blame the council or government.

That’s extremely rude. Savage by name, savage by nature.

It's just beautiful up there. Loch Lomond is a treat.

I stayed in a wee lodge in Balmaha the last two nights, just so good.

Yeah, probably. Definitely projecting, but I am not apologising for living in a lovely middle class rural area, or saying the UK is shit and where I live is shit to make someone else feel better.

I don’t currently live in the UK but that was my impression when I visited. It just needs a good scrub. The parts I saw anyway.

That's pretty rich from someone who insinuated I am a liar, because I said I live in a nice area.

Haha, ok. You win the prize for the nicest part of the UK. Well done.

I've looked at it. It's an Absolute Monarchy with Sharia Law. Enough said.

I hate the smugness and the sneering.

Exactly. I am actually wondering if that poster is joking. 😬
