DH has messed with my phone

blondeseaside · 16/10/2026 08:31

Small thing really, but it's given me the rage. For some reason, DH has taken it upon himself to rearrange all the Apps on my phone. He says to make them in alphabetic order, although only about half are now in alphabetic order.

Previously I knew where to find them all, for eg. Vinted was always on page 3, top left, Whatsapp and Messenger were always on page 2. I now can't find anything easily, and I know it's a first world problem, but I'm feeling enraged that he would mess with my stuff like this!

Take this opportunity to get yourself a new phone. Charge it to him for the inconvenience.

Was phone a typo for husband?😂

TallulahBetty · 16/10/2026 09:10

LTB.

Wowthatwasabigstep · 16/10/2026 09:10

Sit him down and in front of you ask him to put them back to where they were before.

Once that is done tell him in no uncertain terms to not interfere with your things.

Change your passcode so he can’t access your phone.

Does he overstep the mark in other areas of your life?

SoThatsTheWayItIs · 16/10/2026 09:11

I think this is the tech equivalent of being a "spoony fucker" in the kitchen.

Ved · 16/10/2026 09:12

YANBU. What on earth is he doing in your phone anyway? Put a password on it!

I don't let my DH anywhere NEAR my devices. He has form for fucking shit up.. He thinks he's a tech wizard and an IT specialist, because he knows how to uninstall and reinstall apps and operating systems... But I have lost count of the amount of times he has fucked up his own computer, lost all his photos, lost all his files, and had the whole thing crash and burn. This never happens to mine. It's because he's always messing about, and installing different operating systems, and downloading crap, and using VPNs....

He is always complaining that his phone is sluggish too, and keeps stalling, and switching off randomly etc etc, but it's because he is always pissing about with it, and experimenting. Problem is, he's not as clever as he thinks he is with IT and tech, and he keeps breaking stuff/messing it up. I've had the same smartphone since 2019 (the first one I ever had.) We got them at the same time. He is on his 4th one. In 7 years.

When we shared a computer - pre 2010 - I had all of my photos and files and music and documents on it, and he had his, and he fucked up the computer several times, by messing about and experimenting... Including one time when I had spent 8 hours (over 2 days) organising and sorting all my stuff, and he messed up, and had to put the computer back to a restore point from 2 days previously. Undoing everything I had done. He also lost my files a couple of times, and I lost everything. I was in tears... All my documents and music and photos, all gone. (Luckily, my favourite photos were on Facebook, but I lost 90% of my photos., and all the music, and all the documents..)

Once I got my own computer (laptop) in 2010, I never allowed him near it. And I have always been fine, never lost anything, never broke my laptop. HE keeps losing stuff off his, and breaking it, and he can never seem to fathom why. It's like some kind of mental block.

As I said, I never EVER let him near anything of mine, and have my devices locked out with passwords.

She can't do that because she doesn't remember where they used to be anyway.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to change it back. It's actually driving me mad. Mad that I can't find anything, but also mad that he feels this is an ok thing to do. I use my phone for my self employed job too.

Edited

You just press and hold the app and drag it across the page - L to move to fro p 3 to 2, swipe R to move from page q to 3. It takes a while, but it’s easy to do. And yes, I’d change the PIN. It’s like reorganising your cupboards without being asked.

I think OP would need to ask her DH how to put a password on it…

AmandaHoldensLips · 16/10/2026 09:18

Go to his settings and change the language to Turkish.
That'll learn him.

cannynotsay · 16/10/2026 09:19

That’s so weird and I wouldn’t be happy

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/10/2026 09:19

You say you can’t rem where they were

but if you think oh need banking - let your mind relax and swipe and hopefully you will kinds rem where they were and then move it there

aa Others have said - press icon till all wriggle then hold and slide it - if no space next page it will auto go the the following page

interestedandsol · 16/10/2026 09:21

Do a spotlight search if it’s Apple. I never know where any of my apps are.
but yes that was fucking annoying

Thegirlwhowent · 16/10/2026 09:23

That's terrible! Get revenge by rearranging all his tools in size order or by colour or something. (Terribly sexist remark, sorry!)

It's quite an old phone - an Iphone SE. I can move Apps around on the page, but they won't slide to another page. I knew where everything was before. I just can't fathom why he would do this, without asking me if I wanted it. I am really struggling now to find anything and I use this for my job!

I have an SE, I drag the keep your finger on the and drag to the very edge, don’t remove your finger, it’ll eventually swipe to the next page taking the icon too.
If your first pages are full, then start by moving some to the new pages on the right so they’re spread out a bit. Then start organising the back to where you want them.
If you hold an icon over another, it creates a border the usual icon size, then smaller icons inside so you have a folder. I have one for all my entertainment, eg iplayer, netfix, prime. Which is handy to have together, instead of swiping through lots of pages.
You can always google how to and watch a YouTube for help.
Please update how you’ve got on.
Also, set to just your fingerprint and charge password. He’s stepping way over the line here. No access allowed for him!

60degreecycle · 16/10/2026 09:27

Is this out of character, or is overstepping and controlling behaviour helping when help was not required usual for him?

If I was being petty I would spend an hour swapping all his drawers over, and having a really good tidy up in his office and the garage.

Probably best to find a teenager who can help you get some order back in your phone, and put a pass code on it that he doesn't know, but I can't imagine anyone who wasn't a meddling fucker doing this in the first place.

To be brutally honest, if he thought it was OK to do this to your phone, and if he had some kind of compulsion to see apps in alphabetic order, (and those are two completely different things), then you have far more problems looming in your relationship than this.

Does he have other compulsive or controlling behaviours?

blondeseaside · 16/10/2026 08:36

I've tried but can't seem to do it. Now when I want to check my whatsapps (from customers) I can't even find the Icon.

Google for the answer for your phone.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/10/2026 09:31

Sherararara · 16/10/2026 08:39

Sorry but if you can’t even rearrange apps on your phone I can kind of see why your DH feels like you might need help.

But the point is that she didn’t WANT them moved!

Pushmepullu · 16/10/2026 09:32

Every time my dh uses my car he somehow manages to change the dashboard settings. It drives me mad trying to reset them. He would never fiddle with my phone or iPad (mainly because he’s useless at IT) because he knows he will never, ever be allowed to forget.

ThatHeartyHelper · 16/10/2026 09:33

Oh that would drive me mad, mine are arranged as to how I use them which is nothing to do with alphabetical order i.e. all shopping apps in a line, tv apps similar, most used then on first page etc
