Same for my grandmother, the scullery was what I would call the kitchen, and she called the adjacent room with the breakfast table in 'the kitchen', causing lots of confusion when I was a child.
She was Irish, so I don't know if it is an Irish thing. She was also 'in service' as a maid early in the 20thC, so it may be she picked up the terminology then.

I’m Irish and would see scullery as a ‘back kitchen’ or ‘overflow kitchen’ not the main kitchen. My mother used the word scullery for a utility type room in our house, not for the kitchen itself. However, I just looked it up and apparently it is sometimes used (or was used?) as a alternative word for kitchen by some in Northern Ireland and Scotland, so maybe it depends on the part of the country your granny was from.
