@PumpkinWanker you simply have a utility room. We call ours ‘the garage’.

But back to your question, I quite like the bootility name so I may adopt it for the cupboard under the stairs which does house our boots, all footwear in-fact and coats. Zero water in there though. But it’s quicker than saying ‘where Harry Potter’s kept!’

We have all that kit in 'the back passage' in our house.

😂

It's not a great term, it's not as descriptive as lootility but I would expect a washing machine in a utility and a loo in a cloakroom, so a storage area which also has a sink probably does need it's own name.

A loo in a cloakroom? That seems odd. I wouldn’t want people doing their business anyway near my lovely coats.

Summerbay23 · 16/10/2026 07:12

It sounds like a bog standard Utility Room???

likelysuspect · 16/10/2026 07:13

Yes ridiculous term, its just a porch, hallway, utility room or storage cupboard depending on whats in it

We have a washing machine, sink, cupboards etc, washing lines, but I also have wetsuits, tools, the hoover, a fridge freezer

Dumpitility room
Suitility room

TheThirteenthFairy · 16/10/2026 07:14

It's a deeply wanky term, but I would very much like one all the same.

GrandHighPoohbah · 16/10/2026 07:14

It sounds like the downgrade when you can't afford a separate boot room (dirty stuff,) and utility room (clean stuff).

likelysuspect · 16/10/2026 07:15

Oh and a massive bike rack for the car - rackility room.

PigsawJuzzle · 16/10/2026 07:16

If you're a fan of "booitility room" can you explain how it's different from a utility room?

Handbagsandoldcurtains · 16/10/2026 07:22

It’s a scullery.

Fidgety31 · 15/10/2026 20:18

Sounds like a porn den

Yes I was thinking the same!
how ridiculous

GanttChart · 16/10/2026 07:25

Just a boot room surely?

Era · 16/10/2026 07:26

So just a bog standard utility room then op. Been around for decades. Yes it sounds completely wanky and like you’re trying to make your house sound grander than it is.

yomellamoHelly · 16/10/2026 07:27

I already think utility covers all manner of things, so don't see what the b on the front adds.
Lootility I get, because not all have a toilet.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 16/10/2026 07:28

I thought it was what people say to make not having space for the coats and shoes anywhere but the cupboard where they've put the washing machine sound slightly less off putting to buyers.

Boomer55 · 16/10/2026 07:29

Yeah, it is a bit wanky. It’s a utility/cloak room.

EntirelyUnnecessary · 16/10/2026 07:29

Sounds like a haunted utility room to me

It's not that hard to understand. It's a boot room and a utility room combined. Usually they wouldn't be combined.

I don't know if it's wanky but it's certainly cringey.

TheFinalNotch · 16/10/2026 07:32

I feel like it's a utility room if it is off the kitchen.

If it is not off the kitchen and has its own entrance from outside then it's a boot room.

I'm not sure why i feel like that! It doesnt matter what's in it - more where it is

InterestedDad37 · 16/10/2026 07:32

Clever and mildly amusing 😀 🥾🥾 👍

It's a futility room in our house

Ours too.

But it just has a sink, washing machine, dryer and room for the ironing basket etc. If it had room for boots and coats too it would be awesome and might have to be re-named.

Showing your age with this one!

Yes! This! I couldnt put my finger on it but yes

Glazerblazer · 16/10/2026 07:34

I can’t even bring myself to use the work utility room, mine is the washing machine room 😁

Era · 16/10/2026 07:38

We have a boot room for dirty a laundry for clean. Boot room comes in off the back door. Has a sink and built in storage for shoes boots and coats plus general outdoor paraphernalia like dog leads etc. cat and dog also sleep there at night. It gets dirty.
we then have a separate laundry room which holds washing machine tumble dryer, drying cabinet, airer, double sinks for handwashing ironing board and a large walk in housekeeping cupboard with cleaning stuff. Toilet rolls etc
when we had a smaller house that was all combined- it was a utility room.
