So…a utility room

grumpygrape · 15/10/2026 20:16

Yes, it's a utility room unless you have a 'pile' and the wellies, wax jackets, guns, etc. etc. are there.

Interestingnamesuggestion · 15/10/2026 20:16

It makes me cringe almost as much as "nothingburger".

Endoadnowarrior · 15/10/2026 20:18

Its not even really a utility room in my head cause id expect space for at least a washing machine!
Its a cloakroom cupboard with a sink!

Fidgety31 · 15/10/2026 20:18

Sounds like a porn den

Cla7 · 15/10/2026 20:23

It’s a utility room. Or a strange (because of the sink) cupboard. Bootility room makes no sense, it’s not even mainly for boots. Sinkility room, on the other hand, I could get used to because it’s a room with a sink and other random stuff.

JanuaryLove · 15/10/2026 20:24

It's a futility room in our house

EstherGreenwood63 · 15/10/2026 20:29

Super naff yes.

Sonolanona · 15/10/2026 20:31

Our room of doom😅
It used to be the wet room ( DS2 has disabilities) but now it houses a LOT of coats, wellies, the grandkids car seats, the buggy....
It does house posh wellies and Barbour's but it's definitely just a utility room!

Tortephant · 15/10/2026 20:31

I don’t like the term but I do get it.

Living in the country a boot room or room for that stuff is way more of an asset than a utility. Combine them and ideal.

I’d rather a separate room for each particularly as one is “dirt” and the other “clean” but the shared concept of practical things you don’t need to see some how works.

Pollyan · 15/10/2026 20:33

Very much a wanky term OP. Very much so.

Holeymoley28 · 15/10/2026 20:34

It took me a few reading attempts to understand the title before clicking I was like a what room. Expecting maybe something lewd including booties 🍑

But yes it’s a terrible term. Utility or boot room.

DorsetKnobBiscuit · 15/10/2026 20:38

We have all that kit in 'the back passage' in our house.

TY78910 · 15/10/2026 20:38

Never heard of a bootility… do you mean lootility?

TheeNotoriousPIG · 15/10/2026 20:41

YANBU! A utility room at least includes a washing machine (at least, in the UK sense) and is for cleaning things. A boot room is where you dump your mucky boots and wet coats to dry!

User454545454546565 · 15/10/2026 20:42

Yes very wanky, like a caravan in the front garden. I can probably guess the breed of their dog.

Would have to scroll past any house with this in the sales blurb.

Ineedanewsofa · 15/10/2026 20:43

Ours has a toilet in as well so I believe the term is “pootility”

RitaFires · 15/10/2026 20:45

It's not a great term, it's not as descriptive as lootility but I would expect a washing machine in a utility and a loo in a cloakroom, so a storage area which also has a sink probably does need it's own name.

PumpkinWanker · 15/10/2026 20:47

Sorry disclaimer ** it does include a washing machine and a dryer if that makes it any better

Then it is a standard run of the mill utility room. Calling it a Bootility room is wanky.

This is excellent, I'm adopting it!

Highonmyownsupply · 15/10/2026 21:20

Mud room. A place to dump muddy shoes and wash the dog.

FairViewRosie25 · 15/10/2026 21:20

If you have this shit it is a boot room

FairViewRosie25 · 15/10/2026 21:22

Knew someone that installed a shower for the dogs in the boot room

Shatenoeuf · 15/10/2026 21:23
