Pot hole problems

I just drove into the Grand Canyon of pot holes on my way to work which has destroyed my front tyre 😡

Didn’t see it due to heavy rain on the road and now waiting for the tyre shop to open in an hour.

Is it possible to claim against the local council for this? Anyone got experience with this? I only changed the tyre a month ago so it’s otherwise brand new.

Yes but they make it difficult.
You need detailed photos and measurements etc. Your car damaged in situ......

We hit a pothole at 50mph on an unlit dual carriageway. It popped the tyre immediately, cracked the alloy and damaged the suspension. Cost us about £600 to repair. We pulled over straight away, took a photo of the pothole and the damage and submitted a claim. Our council rejected it because they said they have to be aware of potholes to take any responsibility for them so there was nothing they could do as they'd had no previous reports

We gave up in the end but it was really frustrating
