Disinformation

It’s easy to see how disinformation spreads based on this site these last few days. People don’t believe what they’ve read, don’t read things properly and / or randomly think they know best. It’s terrifying. I’m thinking particularly of the story of the 3 sisters committing suicide in Brighton & the man in the tiger enclosure.

Yes you’re right.

But it will be worse on a site like this where people are just scrolling for entertainment and not actually seeking information they want to rely on…where someone needs info they will read more carefully and apply better analysis.

Do you mean deliberate disinformation, or do you mean misinformation? It seems like the latter based on your comments.

I am, sadly, not surprised by some people’s lack of reading comprehension, lack of common sense, lack of ability to check information for veracity before spreading it.

I am to the right politically and the algorithms come up with YouTube feeds like "labour minster lies on tv". "Lefty meltdown on live tv". Then you watch the video and nothing of the kind happens, but the commentators narrative says it does...if i was a bit more stupid than I actually am and less sceptical about everything I'd be suckered in

Yes I understand that but people will read it and take it as gospel and so it spreads

This is so true. I'm just listening to Owen Jones on Triggernometry. The commentary from the left online that insists he "won" the debate and insulting the hosts is unreal. I'm sure the commentary on the right is equal and opposite.

Neither match what I'm listening to.
