AIBU in thinking that Vinted is fun but addictive and do you think that it's better than Ebay and if so, why?

Used to enjoy them. These days Vinted/Etsy/Amazon/Ebay seems to be so full of drop-shippers I've basically given up on them all.

Rejoinedforthis · 10/10/2026 01:36

I used to and now it’s just full of drop shippers and people using AI images so I’ve given up.

SALaw · 10/10/2026 05:44

I absolutely hate it. I’m using it to sell various things from my Mum’s house to help her downsize and the time wasters are infuriating.

FlowerVases · 10/10/2026 05:48

No.

iamnotalemon · 10/10/2026 06:53

I do. I have to remove the app!

Isittimeformynapyet · 10/10/2026 06:56

I don't. I find it overwhelming.

I know how to refine my searches on eBay, so I prefer that.

PrincessSassy · 10/10/2026 06:57

Yes very, I just find myself drawn back to it. I used to love eBay but rarely use it now, vinted is like a treasure trove of goodies that I just can't stay away from

Fuckitydoodah · 10/10/2026 07:07

I think I'm a bit addicted. The algorithm knows what I like now and my homepage generally has lots of things I like the look of.

On the whole I've done well with what I've bought. Apart from a couple of brand new vest tops, anything else I bought this summer was from vinted.

I've bought the DC things like winter coats and football boots and saved a fortune.

ViaRia01 · 10/10/2026 07:08

Yes but only mildly addictive so it’s quite enjoyable and I can get bored/ fed up with it quite easily, leave it alone for a few months and then go back to it.

TwinklyAmberSloth · 10/10/2026 07:18

I don't find it addictive.

I prefer it to Ebay as vinted is still mostly people selling secondhand stuff which was the whole point of it.

EBay just has too many drop shippers and is rubbish for clothes now. I do like eBay for the odd thing though.

LlamasDramas · 10/10/2026 07:19

I had an addictive Vinted phase over the summer which has stopped dead because of so many delivery problems. Three parcels were never delivered to the lockers so it ended up being a complete waste of time for the seller and me. All the undelivered parcels were sent back to the seller - I really don't know what went wrong.

So Vinted is enticing when the prices can be very low. There are bargains to be had. However it is not worth the hassle and stress when parcels never arrive.

eBay is a shit outdated platform. I used to sell lots on there years ago but you were pounded by sellers fees, postage costs had to come from your pocket initially then you’d be reimbursed later when the money cleared, PayPal fees as well at one point… None of that with Vinted, you get the money for the item as soon as the buyer gets it and says it’s ok and no seller fees or postage costs.

Also just think the search function on Vinted is better. I can filter it down really well and find what I want much more easily.

This is true too. Lots of people buying “viral” items and reselling for twice the price.

ThatCyanCat · 10/10/2026 08:12

I was never addicted but at one point I made far too many impulse purchases and with the amount of money I wasted, I could have bought something brand new, good quality, that I could try on and return if I didn't like it.

I still use it from time to time but very carefully and selectively... the spell is well and truly broken.

Raiderofthelostbattenburg · 10/10/2026 08:21

I definitely found it quite addictive when I first starting using it. Now, I keep a list on my notes app of things I actually want/ need and of brands I already know I like, and I search for them specifically. I think it’s the dopamine hit of an easy impulse buy that’s addictive!

glendabrownlow · 10/10/2026 08:29

I am currently addicted to Vinted and on the whole I've done pretty well, but I need to wean myself off it because I am spending too much money on things I don't really need.

Aiming4Optimistic · 10/10/2026 08:48

I've deleted the app - too much crap on there now and people asking high prices for items you can't return if unsuitable. Sometimes items are virtually the shop price, which is bonkers!

Ive had some good items in the past, but also some total dross and as a pp said, the money I've wasted on the wrong things, could easily have bought me something new.

It's gone the eBay way of people professionally selling instead of the lovely idea of us all recycling our own unwanted, but still decent, clothes.

CupofTeaThisMorning · 10/10/2026 08:53

I am annoyed at all the people who have made selling on Vinted their ‘profession’ and the amount of fakes that Vinted do nothing about.

If I buy anything I will only go for very good ot good - I don’t trust new with labels.

But as someone said upthread I’ve decided for the 5 shit pieces I get from
Vinted I might as well get something new.
