This is light hearted really but AIBU to dislike hosting playdates?!
I love my own kids but find other annoying. We have had one this evening and I found the boy nice enough but rude and demanding 'I'm hungry' 'can I have some crisps? ' 'can I have another biscuit?'

I gave lots of snacks and dinner so felt they ate plenty. I would hate if my child were saying that at other people's house but not sure if thats just a me thing?

The kids (all not just the friend) left a huge mess and took forever to leave when they were picked up and I just wanted to get on with bedtime and relax!

I know I need to host for social reasons for my kids but just generally find it annoying!

AIBU?

I don’t really like play dates either. I find the noise and mess really intense. 2.5 hours and one meal is my max. I understand it’s something I have to do but I would actually say we only host maybe 5 a year. I much prefer and enjoy meeting people in local parks or doing something outdoors. Also between working and family time it’s not high on the priority list

The thing is, your child might well behave in a similar way at his friends house.

I think this is fair enough. Home is meant to be a sanctuary. It’s bad enough having the chaos of the children you physically birthed (or indeed adopted) without other people’s children treating you as the hired help.

A ‘sanctuary’? It’s just where you live! And where your children live.

I hate it too! My daughter has had loads and the kids are weird. One always says to me before we even get in the car ‘can we have the windows down.’ How rude and entitled! And one always says she’s hungry even though I’m constantly feeding them and when her Mum returned the favour she didn’t feed my daughter for the whole visit! My son had one who begged for ice cream so I gave him some and he ate one mouthful and declared he’s full. I’ve stopped offering now, I feel sorry for my kids but it costs me money and the kids get on my tits. I know my kids wouldn’t ask for food or say they’re bored or demand the car windows open.
