Yet another predator in the police force. If we can't trust the police, who the hell can women trust?

I've been dealing with the police over an ongoing situation for a few years +
My faith in the service has been eroded to the point of non existence.
There may be very decent cops but 1. I have yet to meet one and 2. If they are working under a dodgy bastard they have no chance. The system is broken.

Yes, there are two types of police officers: the rapey, corrupt, misogynistic type, and the accomplices who keep quiet.

The police and army are full of egomaniacs. Yes there are probably some decent ones amongst them but they seem few and far between.

Even as a guy, I wouldn’t trust them. Something terrible happened to a childhood friend at the hands of the police. It was dismissed and covered up.

The entire organisation moves from one scandal to the next.

Wow, I hope your friend is ok now

I wonder if those condemning the police would a) be able and willing to take on the role themselves or b) have a better idea for maintaining order in our society than a police force?

I have a lot of friends who are a bit anti police in a ‘I’ve never personally encountered them but I ideologically don’t like the police’, one of whom decided to try and make the point to my husband that his job isn’t actually valuable or whatever, by asking “so go on, what did you actually do yesterday at work?”
answer: arrested a rapist.

If you don’t want police, what do you want?

I don't trust the Police.
I have 5 close family members - all male - who are Police Officers , that's why.

My reasoning for not trusting the police is not only due to anecdotel evidence, but many personal experiences. I would never want to do the job because I have no desire to yield power over people. I do think the bar is set way too low now and anyone can become a copper.

There are so, so many incidents of abuse of power, that I honestly don't believe the trope "one bad apple".

OP posts:
IStillHearTheWaves · 10/10/2026 09:10

All jobs that involve authority and access to the public are attractive the abusers. That involves the police force, teachers, religious figures, carers, politicians. That doesn't mean they are all abusers, but there is always going to be an percentage that are.

PollyBell · 10/10/2026 09:11

So does this all mean police shouldn't catch criminals as if the police are not to be trusted how can the arrests be? Yet when there are victims of crimes people complain the police do nothing

Sweat ia the answer to crimes and people saying on here constantly any time there is an issue 'report it' so if not the police then report to who?

You’re an ex-copper?? Then you must have been living under a rock if you didn’t understand that reference.

These coppers immediately took the side of the man who accused Henry (the murderer victim) of racism.
They arrogantly dismissed him telling them that he had been stabbed.

All because the perpetrator was Asian, who spuriously accused Henry of ‘racism’.
If that’s not the pure, crystallised form of Two Tier Policing, then i don’t know what is.

That sentence should haunt the police forever.

An independent investigation into why Henry Nowak was handcuffed by police as he was dying is ongoing.

It's not just rape or SA, it's also officers with links to organised crime. There was a problem with the vetting process a few years back, which saw thousands of people onto the police force who should not have been cleared. They are actively trying to rectify the situation.

Oh yes, I'm sure there are an abundance of bent, corrupt coppers on the payroll of various organisations.

Is anyone familiar with the case of Christopher Alder? Absolutely shocking, it was back in the 90s, he was left in a cell with a severe head injury (which killed him) and whilst he lay injured, he had some bastard police officers making monkey noises at him. It took years for his family to receive any kind of apology, and it’s a significant case of police corruption and racism.

The people who blindly support the police in the face of instances like this genuinely worry me, because where exactly do you draw the line? And these instances are not the one off cases you believe they are - it happens time and time again, precisely because the culture is absolutely rotten Systemic issues are a separate issue to ‘well, my only interaction with the police was positive, therefore all is wonderful, or my neighbours grandson is a copper and a lovely man.

oneoffname · 10/10/2026 10:01

Yes, there are police officers who do dreadful things to their victims. But I don't believe that is the majority of them. I only know a few personally , but those I know are absolutely not 'rapey' or violent.
As pps have said, there are bad people in any job. My DM former GP is currently serving several life sentences with a minimum 25 year term for over 100 sexual assaults on female patients. Almost every week in the news we read about teachers of both sexes in court for sexual offences. Here on MN we regularly read about abusive partners and spouses whose 'important' job is used by them as an excuse for their behaviour. Part of the problem is that we only ever read about the bad ones. There's no 'cluck' value in publishing news stories about the majority of these people who do their jobs properly and for the right reasons, not to go on a power trip to abuse vulnerable victims.

Greenlawnbrownlawn · 10/10/2026 10:14

Even leaving aside the many worse case examples, I have no trust that any police I encounter will be helpful, friendly, empathetic, sympathetic or even just "nice".

I would always think twice before involving them because I wouldn't be able to trust them to be fair. As for the joke that they are all "highly trained professionals" that we hear so often just look at the people they've killed through their driving and firearm misuse...
