Aibu to want to visit the transport museum?

This is a lighthearted thread btw.

I realised that we’ve got a local transport museum full of old busses as well as other vehicles. It’s only a few pounds entry. You can get a bus ride on one of the old buses around the local area too. They’ve got a good selection there.

I suggested to dh that we go go with our 10yo ds.

He said yes but I could tell he wasn’t particularly enthusiastic. I asked him are you actually interested in going or are you just saying yes. He said he’s not remotely interested but is happy to go if I want to.

That’s absolutely fine and I’d be happy to go alone, but am I a boring bastard?

Yabu - you’re boring no one cares about the transport museum
Yanbu - it’s interesting dh is the boring one

Beaulieu Motor Museum - Hampshire
National Railway Museum - York
Haynes Motor Museum -Yeovil
Fleet Air Arm Museum -Yeovilton
Concorde Museum -Bristol
Helicopter Museum -Weston-super-Mare
Maritime Museum-Falmouth
Jim Clark Motirsport Museum- Duns
Tank Museum- Bovington
Portsmouth Harbour
National Museum of Flight- East Fortune
Lifeboat Museum- Tenby
Royal Yacht- Leith (not strictly a Motor museum but you can visit the engine room)

We've been to all the above.

Im the only female in the family so I've had to adapt. I'm just waiting for the Fashion Museum in Bath to reopen in a couple of years time so that i can subject DH and DS to my interests.

I've been to several of these. Didn't fancy a return trip to Bovington so DH went on his own after dropping me at Monkey World just down the road.
We each had a very enjoyable day on our own.
We do both enjoy a ride on a steam train though.

Can't recommend this place in Taunton highly enough.

Most cars are from the 1950s to 1990s so lots of 'ohhh my dad had one of those' and 'That was my first car!' moments. The cafe is pretty special too.

Fire up the Quattro!

Oh, wow. I did not know about that - so that's what's become of County Stores. Will have to go next time Im 'home'.

Recently went to the one in Acton. Brilliant, would definitely recommend. You'll have a great time. YANBU

Is that the one in St Helens. I went a few weeks ago and enjoyed it!

Not a transport museum, although we have done several of those but only visited our local one last year and we've lived here more than 30 years! We're very excited to be going to Crossness the week after next. It's a Victorian sewage pumping station. Unfortunately it won't be steaming that day but it looks like a spectacular building!

I’m so jealous, I’ve wanted to go for years, it it’s tricky to get too. And a long way for me. I live a nice Victorian pumping station. Got a couple near me.

I think your question is unreasonable.

Nothing is intrinsically boring. Different people like different things.

It's OK that your husband has no interest. It's OK that you do.

I would find a transport museum more boring that a movie and TV museum but less boring than a fashion museum, but that's just me.

fridaynightzzz · 10/10/2026 11:48

Transport museums are ace. I am in the NE and when DD was little we would go to beamish and spend all day riding on trams and buses.

We just did the London Transport Museum as my husband wanted to visit. I thought I would be bored but wasn’t. It was more than a few quid though 🤣

But it is unlimited visits for the price for a year (worth it if you can go regularly)

Sunbringer · 10/10/2026 13:40

I think neither of you is unreasonable. The museum exists because people are interested in it. But it’s also not exactly exhilarating. Your DH said he was happy to go…

Love a museum. Of any type or flavour so YANBU.

I love a good pencil and am hatching a plan to go to the Pencil Museum. I haven’t told DP yet.

The pencil museum was honestly one of my favourite things from all the different places my parents took me to as a child. 😁 Even now in my 40s I can still remember the smells. 😍

Ooo thank you. I’m even more determined to go. I think it stems from seeing a film about a pencil factory through the arched window on Play School

I am in Aberdeenshire and the Alford Transport Museum is one of my favourite local stops. You can climb around on the buses: and they remind me of my grandparents and trips to see them.
They also have a narrow gauge railway - they have been restoring the track abd trains after Covid and budgets had it fall into disrepair. It’s not big, but it’s fun, and of course you can get a scone.

NainAGP · 10/10/2026 13:53

Crich is excellent and has been for many years. I rarely find a museum I don't enjoy, and as others suggest, curiosity in the world around us is a great thing.

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 10/10/2026 17:12

My manager thinks it hilarious that I’ve been to two tile museums and a toilet museum. All very interesting!

DisforDarkChocolate · 10/10/2026 17:29

I love a transport museum, the highlight of a holiday a few years ago was finding we were near Critch.

MintTwirl · 10/10/2026 17:32

I love museums, my son would love that museum, he loves an old bus or tram ride!

redfairy · 10/10/2026 18:05

If it's Coventry Transport Museum you should definitely go. Lots to see and do and you can even go on a landspeed simulator. The cafe Baxters attached to it is great as well. Another vote for Crich Tram Museum mentioned further up as well. They have lots of events and it's in a beautiful part of the world.

Oioiqueen · 10/10/2026 19:07

I love a good museum, transport ones are high up the list (can you guess what industry my career is?) Can I come please instead of your DH?

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 10/10/2026 19:57

The Museum of Transportation in Prague is possibly my favourite museum ever.

FlowerVases · 10/10/2026 20:21

I wouldn't ask a 10 yo. Just plan a day out.
