To think my ex is actually a really awful person

I broke up with my ex earlier this year but can’t help ruminating on some of the stuff he did to me over the years and just wondering if others agree that this stuff is truly awful or am I being dramatic? I think I’m only just processing some of it but one of the worst things he did which I can’t stop thinking about is that when I’d just had our youngest child I was up in the night breastfeeding and found loads of messages on his phone to various women on multiple different apps and websites. When I say there were hundreds of apps and thousands of women I’m not exaggerating. He had even been video calling them and doing sexual stuff on camera while I was asleep in the next room. This had been going on throughout my pregnancy and then after our child was born. The baby was only 6 weeks old when I discovered it and I was about to go back to work that week but I had to go to the gp and get signed off as my mental health was so bad.

Anyway he convinced me that it was all my fault and I had been neglecting his needs during the pregnancy. So I forgave him but it mentally just about killed me. I ended up with postpartum psychosis and being hospitalised. I keep having flashbacks of my elderly parents having to stay in the hospital holding my hand until about 4am while I waited for a psych evaluation. And my partner had buggered off back home to sleep 🥲

Not sure exactly what the point of this post is except just to get it out and off my chest and maybe someone out there has been through similar and can relate as I feel quite alone with it all 😕

This IS horrific. Sorry you had to go through that. He was emotionally abusing you at the time when you were at your most vulnerable. And also endangered the wellbeing of his own child.

I havnt been through similar but have been betrayed. It's the psychological messiness of it all, and how someone can essentially watch you go through psychological trauma and still not step up. You have nothing to worry about though, your morals are in the right place, the shame is the amount of space your brains taken/taking to process what is essentially a result of his emotional immaturity and other issues that he hasn't dealt with. You'll get there and you certainly are not alone. I'm always surprised at what one human can do to another to keep their own feelings safe.

What an appalling man. I’m glad you’re no longer with him.

yes he was definitely awful. well done for ditching him. how is life now?

Crikeyalmighty · Yesterday 21:51

I’m sorry OP - it’s a total headfuck when you realise the person who is supposed to have your back is really only interested in getting their dick wet/boosting their ego etc when you are feeling vulnerable - itsall about them !

It’s up and down. I go through phases of thinking I really miss him and that life was in many ways easier when we were together. Then other times I randomly remember something terrible he did to me that I’d buried away for so long and I realise how glad I am that I got out when I did

He was awful. It’ll take you a long time to get over this but I’m sure you will be able to. Is counselling an option available to you? It could help to talk it out. Life maybe was easier financially or in some other ways for you but at least you are not living with someone who completely disrespects you.

I'm so sorry for what you've been through 😢 what an absolute bastard to treat you like that when you're at your most vulnerable! Thank goodness your lovely mum and dad were there to support you.

Well done for getting away from him - you must be a strong woman to have come through all that. Don't ever doubt yourself, he was abusive and none of it was your fault. You're a bloody warrior! Sending hugs to you 🫂

It actually wasn’t easier financially to be honest he was terrible with money and also had a really low paid job. That’s why I had to go back to work 6 weeks after giving birth. He took 9 months off after I went back to work and I had to work full time to support our family, apart from of course the time I took off on sick leave. Then he went back to work and immediately got made redundant so he didn’t work for over a year in the end. It was incredibly stressful as I had to pay all of our household bills for all of that time and I ended up getting into debt.

Going back to work so early is partly I think what caused my mental health breakdown. I had to abruptly stop breastfeeding and my hormones were all over the place.

I can access counselling through my workplace and am waiting to be given a first appointment. Thank you for your kind words ❤️
