Do we think cats go to heaven?

If animals go to heaven, then presumably it'll be full of all the animals we've ill-treated in factory farms, cosmetic testing labs, whales we've hunted, rhinos and elephants killed for their ivory etc. I'm not sure they'll be so pleased to see us.

I hadn't thought about that. I hope there's plenty of angels on poo picking duty.

FuzzyPuffling · 01/10/2026 21:42

Yes. We are all God's creation. He wouldn't make something, then leave it out of the best bit.

Then (most) humans won't go to heaven due to the way they've treated(most) of the other animals 'he' created.

I'm a scientist, don't believe in heaven/hell etc.

But if I did, or if I was god, I'd dare say a religion formed for all of God's creatures by all those creatures would depict the devil in human form.

HolyMoly24 · 01/10/2026 21:33

Of course. They are already little furry angels

You haven’t met mine, the bugger.

Maisymouse2 · 02/10/2026 05:52

No. I believe they live in a happy cat place.
Athetist.

Openmouthinsertfood · 02/10/2026 05:57

I know this is a kind of jokey thread, but, three years ago my mum was in hospital dying. The night before she asked, "Can anyone else see Name of much loved passed cat over there?" I asked if he wanted her to go with him, she said yes, but I'm not ready yet. She died the next day.

Hopefully that wouldn't also include other aspects of god's creation such as the loa loa worm that infects human eyeballs, the bacteria that causes syphilis, the bacteria that caused the Black Death, or the myriad other organisms that have caused untold misery, sickness and death through the ages.

Nice, cheery post. Set me up for the day that has.

Clydebuilt · 02/10/2026 06:12

I hope not. Cats terrify me! It’s bad enough for me here on earth without finding out that when I go to my eternal rest, I’ll be surrounded by them.

YourKeenMauveJoker · 02/10/2026 06:14

Jeez no. But then no one and nothing does, in my opinion. Nice to imagine, hence why religions exist...

SleepQuest33 · 02/10/2026 06:21

i don’t know about ALL cats but my cat will definitely go to heaven when the time comes! Such a beautiful soul.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 02/10/2026 06:29

I hope so. Put my cat down last night.

What about ticks and fleas? Are they in there too?

I’m so sorry, @Slightyamusedandsilly.

LynetteScavo · 02/10/2026 07:00

Do animals have souls? It would be weird to think animals have souls and eat meat. I’m not convinced animals go to heaven. But I’m also not 100% sure animals don’t have souls.

This. I often think about this when we all fuss and coo over our pets, what about the billions we slaughter and treat appallingly in the meat industry.

Daisychain700 · 02/10/2026 07:14

its comforting to think of pets going to heaven
im not sure
i believe in God and that he created us in his image, that our souls are eternal, therefore when we die we can return to heaven to be with God if we know him, or go down to hell to be separate from God if we don’t.
Jesus was Gods rescue plan for us because most of us are inclined to reject God and sin against each other, so in Jesus’s death and resurrection we have a chance to be forgiven and turn back to God if we choose.

Im not so sure animals have eternal souls and haven’t seen anything written about this anywhere or tested anywhere scientifically (I don’t think you can test for a soul). I think pets reflect Gods heart so are beautiful creatures to live with.

Re the loa loa worm and bacteria… I consider bacteria and insects were created by God as good, but due to the broken nature of the earth some of these things now harm people and animals.

i also believe God has a plan to redeem his earth, the Bible gets very interesting in the later chapters of the New Testament.

Might be too deep for a light thread, but that’s my understanding as a Christian and pet owner

I’m so sorry, @Slightyamusedandsilly.

Thank you. Can't stop crying. My lovely boy.

TreeDudette · 02/10/2026 07:18

Theres no such place. Some weird cloud heath spa afterlife…. Does it have monkeys? Or Neanderthals or any of the proto humans in between? Doesnt it fill up? If I die when I’m 90 do I have to be 90 in spirit form for eternity? If a baby dies as a baby do they stay a baby for eternity. If it’s my baby do I get stuck looking after it for eternity?
I have a LOT of questions and once you start asking how it would actually work you realise how odd the concept is. I prefer Valhalla!! Or the mummy thing. Or maybe reincarnation as a frog.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 02/10/2026 07:23

I've always assumed that cats (and church organists) are actually in the pay of the devil - so probably not.😆

EmpressaurusKitty · 02/10/2026 07:30

Re the loa loa worm and bacteria… I consider bacteria and insects were created by God as good, but due to the broken nature of the earth some of these things now harm people and animals.

How do you define ‘good’ and ‘harm’ though? There are bacteria & insects which are just acting on instinct & have no concept of causing harm, & then there are humans who know exactly what harm they’re causing to animals with battery farms, testing etc but don’t care.

MotherOfCrocodiles · 02/10/2026 07:33

I don’t believe in heaven, but if there was one it would be full of cats (no people…!)

Whatisthat1 · 02/10/2026 07:42

No. Like all living beasts including humans, they get cremated or rot away to nothing.

I don’t see why some people have such an issue accepting that. Is it really that different from understanding that eventually the sun will burn out and earth will be no more. We are all temporary additions to a temporary world.

MrsBatshitRatshit · 02/10/2026 07:46

dustabsorber · 01/10/2026 22:01

I meant the Ancient Egyptians mummified cats, so they must have assumed that cats would be in the afterlife.

The Ancient Egyptians also assumed that marrying their sisters was the best way to preserve their bloodline, but that didn't work out for them.

dizzydizzydizzy · 02/10/2026 08:10

do you really think that cats would settle for any less?

Chemenger · 02/10/2026 08:16

I simultaneously believe that there is no afterlife and that cats cross the rainbow bridge to wait for their owners. I don’t have a problem with that.

Elsvieta · 02/10/2026 08:18

Nah, they agree with Milton's Satan: better to reign in hell than serve in heaven.
