Crying at work!!

I cried at work today and i feel so pathetic. I've been doing my job for over 10 years so I just don't know why I am getting upset.

Im so fed up of coming into work after days off/holidays and work not been completed so I have to sort that before starting the days jobs. My supervisor is useless and just seems to ignore that people don't complete jobs when I am on holiday and it's left for when I return. I have told my manager too but again nothing has changed.

I've got some stuff going on at home, had an argument with my brother (I don't have much family or friends) and he said there's something wrong with me which has hurt a lot.

My health has been pretty rubbish this year too and I've had a lot of anxiety about it, had cancer in the past and this year has made me realise that the fear never goes away and it is always going to be part of my life.

So everything feels really crappy at the moment and I'm just tired.

Crying is a normal human thing to do and you mustn’t beat yourself up at all. Were you in a public spot or private? Either way it doesn’t really matter but I know it’s harder when people have seen you.

We’ve all cried at work don’t worry lovely xx

DontbesorrybeGiles · 30/09/2026 20:03

I’ve cried at work in front of various people. I work in a very difficult environment with lovely direct colleagues and very toxic senior management. I hate crying in front of people as it fills me with shame but I think I’ve seen at least 60% of my colleagues cry at work and I don’t think any worse of them so I assume they don’t judge me too much either.

sending you a virtual hug, OP. This sounds very tough, you did nothing wrong.

ilovesooty · 30/09/2026 20:05

You're human and you're tired. It sounds tough. Don't beat yourself up about it. I hope you can access the support you need.

It was in front of my manager 😩

I feel so pathetic my problems are so minor compared to others .

It’s fine you’re human and we cry sometimes.

You’re not pathetic and you don’t need to feel ashamed.

if the situation at work is not likely to change then my advice would be to embrace it. Acknowledge nothing gets done when you’re away. Don’t worry about it. Just do what you can.

for today go in. At break time go out and get a pumpkin spiced latte and force a smile when you look in the mirror.

we are all in this together and I’m with you girl

Sending hugs. That sounds tough but we’ve all been there and it’s so frustrating when you need to pick up other people’s work. Someone once told me never to compare my problems to others - your challenges aren’t less significant or real or hard to you just because they don’t seem as bad as someone else’s- hope things get better soon ❤️

It's really normal. I cried from frustration weekly in my last job (in the toilets) for the last couple of months and in my final meeting about why I quit I burst into angry tears - I was being lied to and could do nothing but quit unfortunately. The odd colleague who saw me was very kind.

TheRealSmurfette · 06/10/2026 22:18

Hugs op. Don’t worry. Everyone cries, it’s only human. It sounds like a lot. Be kind to yourself X

butidid · 06/10/2026 22:22

Anger, outrage, frustration, feeling of injustice, as well as just feeling sad .. they can all make you cry at work. Really normal. I'm sorry your manager is not managing your team effectively.
Don't give the crying a second thought. You are not the problem, you are just human. I hope things at home settle, look after yourself
