To want to sell the car

Probably a bit of a long one
I think I'm being unreasonable..but I'm not convinced what DH wants to do is reasonable either .
So bought a 2 year old car ,3 months ago
Old car was electric but didn't have a long range and caused family members a lot of stress having to wait to charge it ....but I loved driving it
This new car is not electric .
We have an adult family that sometimes need driving places
I am the main driver of the car
However ...I am struggling..it's huge ,it's difficult to park
I want to sell it and put £2000 towards another electric car with a longer range.
DH says it's already lost £2000 in value since he bought it
DH wants to pay £2000 to buy me a 20 year old car to drive around town in ,and keep a 2 year old car sitting on the drive to occasionally use to ferry family about .. probably once or twice a month.
That's the bare bones of it
But there's obviously a lot more detail that would just derail the issue of what to do ..so he's happy to spend £2000 ...but not to sell the car
We are not rolling in money and it seems madness buying another car and having to tax and insure it ,plus pay for repairs on an old car

@Sallysredshoes I can see where he’s coming from.

If you sell the car, you’re down £2k already (as he said its lost value), then he gives £2k for the new car, so total cost is £4k.

If you keep the car, he gives you £2k for new car. Total cost £2k.

Edited

Either way my lack of confidence driving is costing him money 😭

Mg Hs current car
Want to swap for zs electric

I drive a BMW X1 so was just comparing yours size wise. It does seem a little bigger, but not massivley. Do you not think, given time, you'd get used to it?
I swapped from a mini so my X1 felt like a tank initially, but I'm used to it now. Money wise it would be a shame to get rid of it.

I know..that's also why I think I'm being unreasonable.
It's 3 or 4 months now we have had it .
and you don't nip anywhere in it .
.I just feel like I'm sat in the middle of the car to drive it
..the bonnet is huge
,if I have my seat high enough to see the end of the bonnet, then the mirror is slap bang in the middle of the window obstructing my view .
.I'm literally sat on top of the steering wheel, clinging to it ,with the seat as high and as near to the steering wheel as it will go .my DH keeps saying that's not a safe way to drive ..but it's the only way I can see the end of the bonnet, and if I can't see the end of the bonnet I can't park it properly
But also it's jerky..it doesn't drive as well as electric,it takes up the full parking space ,I need three spaces to park it successfully in the middle space .it's hard to get back in the car if someone parks to close , because it takes up the full space .
I was horrified when it arrived home and it was sat on the drive
The entire situation is totally my fault..I had every chance to test drive it ,but I assumed it would be ok ..had I of gone to the garage to see it ,I would of known it was to big .
So I accept I'm being unreasonable and it's entirely my fault

Oh come on now, I thought you were going to say you had a Honda E and now owned a VW Transporter.

The HS is only 35cm longer than the ZS EV. Same width, same height.

Is there any reason you didn’t go and test drive it?
I would’ve bought a car to suit the driver not some relatives, who you do a favour for, every now and again so your dh is being a selfish twat.

Yes I see your point and my husband wants to do this
But he's already financing 4 cars fully himself..I can't ask him to finance another .
We have 4 DC..so he's paying for two of their cars and the one I'm talking about and one that he uses for work.
Either way it's more money..unless I just woman up ,and be greatful for what I have and drive the car I have

Could you possibly swap cars with one if your children?

Have you driven a HS ?
I feel.ike I'm driving it from the middle of the car ,not the front of it .
It's massive

I think you would be making a mistake to trade in the car you've just bought - it's a lot of money to throw away for a car your husband likes and you'd be fine with if you were more comfortable driving it. Nor does shelling out more to get a cheap (and therefore less than reliable, with unpredictable maintenance costs) car for you seem sensible.

Regrettable though it is that your household landed up with a car that doesn't suit you, you are where you are. My suggestion would be to book some specialist driving lessons so that you can learn to handle this much bigger car. Not lessons with the bog standard kind of driving instructor, but with an instructor who offers tailored lessons. This doesn't come cheap, * but would be much cheaper than swapping cars or buying a second car. If you've never really felt confident driving it would be a chance to improve your skills in the areas that bother you.

There's no reason for you to make yourself stressed and miserable driving a tank of a car when there is tuition available. It's mad once a person has passed her test she probably never gets further professional tuition unless something goes wrong or she takes a job that requires advanced driving skills - we're nowhere near so blase about many other skills.

*£320ish for 3.5 hours when I was looking recently for myself. You can vary the session length to suit.
