What help you with menopause?

Whathelp · Yesterday 16:31

Having teens and going through menopause isn’t a great combination. DD2 and I are both sensitive people who takes things to heart. I know I am the parent and should know better. But every little thing affects me deeply.

I wish I had my children earlier but not point of dwelling about the past.

What help you with menopause anxiety, overthinking and resilience? And didn’t give you any side effects? How do I remain strong to support DC16 through this difficult phase.

Thread was meant to say I wish I had my kids earlier. Posting here for traffic, perhaps I should move it to the menopause .

HRT helped me with anxiety and irritability. I didn't have lots of other symptoms (I exercise a lot, eat well, good sleep etc which also helps), but I got to 48, and the obvious reasons for why I had bene anxious and stressed for the other years in my 40s had faded away (grief, work/money/legal stress etc) but I still felt like I had left the oven on all the time. HRT took that feeling away, helped me feel joyful again (sometimes at least!).

Disturbia81 · Yesterday 23:03

What everyone else said. The women I know who suffered are the ones who are overweight, eat and drink a lot, smoke, don’t exercise, don’t manage stress etc.
HRT, look after yourself, few vitamins

WhatDoRacoonsSay · Yesterday 23:05

Nortryptaline and duloxetine.

RobinEllacotStrike · Yesterday 23:05

Hrt, brownies & lots of yoga.
healthy diet

i could have written the OP too.

Thank you. I do lots of the healthy stuff, perhaps I should increase the exercise and add weights and strength training, as I don’t think I do enough. Will look at the medication too.

I need to build more resilience. I am frequently worried about parenthood; one is doing GCSE this year and struggling with maths; plus all the stress of being a teen, ups and downs hormones.

Other one is gone to uni; is a bit ill at the moment and told me she just registered with the GP there as she forgot.

So here I am awake and worrying which I know it doesn’t help. So not sure if it is being a mum or menopause or both,

I look after myself, take vitamins, eat well, meditate and excercise but i think I need to increase the excercise. I am trying acupuncture and hypnosis. If these things don’t work will go for the medication.

Divorce helped everything

fuschiaproudparrot · Today 04:43

HRT.

suki1964 · Today 05:26

Sertraline , exercise and healthy eating

Walking really helped keep the flushes at bay and now Ive added weights and body strength

The sertraline really helps me with the anxiety

The healthy eating is really helping big time , plenty of protein and fibre , cutting the UPFs and take outs , no added sugars, Now on reducing alcohol

Lucyintheskywithnoidea · Today 06:05

HRT (although I’m just switching to a different type so not feeling 100%), strength training, routine and cleaning (the state of my house is the only thing that I feel like I can control at the sometimes! ). Oh and occasionally sleeping tablets.

Autumnallaround · Today 06:08

As much oestrogen as the GP will give you.
Mirena coil.
Magnesium glycinate for sleep.

HRT is what helps op. Don't take anti depressants until you have exhausted all the connotations of HRT.

Autumnallaround · Today 06:09

Also to add, I was already strength training (for 15yrs) and eating a very good diet. So for me the only thing that was likely to help was HRT.

Fantastic that you already do all that, HRT is the main thing though. You need to replace those lost hormones and nothing else can. Hope you feel better soon OP

I'm 48 and my bloods are completely normal. I've always felt anxious but the existential dread is sometimes overpowering, especially at night. I'm so anxious that I don't want to take prescribed anti anxiety tablets as I worry about the side effects. I take some tablets with mushrooms and ashwagandha to help me relax before bed, I do a yoga class once a week with a friend and I go jogging with my son at the weekend. I've recently been quite strict with myself regarding how much alcohol I drink. I quite like the 0% alcohol sparkling Rose from Freixenet. I take some vitamin d when I remember, and Omega 3 as well. I still don't sleep brilliantly and get massive anxiety spikes. Not sure where to go from there.

Then you need to talk to your GO or a specialist. There are sometimes options available depending on the reasons why you cannot take HRT

Go back to your GP with a list of symptoms. In fact, find a checklist of peri symptoms and go through those. There might be ones you are experiencing but not linking to peri, for me one of those was heart palpitations.

Blood levels fluctuate even throughout the day. You do not need a blood test if you are over 45, you can be prescribed HRT without. Advocate for yourself x

MargoLivebetter · Today 10:23

Knowing that until you are post menopause it is a transitory experience, like puberty. That the symptoms are likely to change as you go through the process and eventually you do come out the other side.

That it is also an opportunity to look after yourself better. Regardless of whether you take HRT, are there things you can do to really look after yourself eg: prioritise sleep, good nutritious food, exercise, relaxation, alcohol intake and doing things that you enjoy etc. You can get away with a great deal when you are young and you can't as you get older. I now see that as a good thing and have moved self-care up my priority list.

HRT has been a godsend, Before that I was waking at 3.30am most mornings. I had totweak the oestrogen dose but sleep these days is pretty much back to normal.
