Passport validity question

dairyfreequeenoh · 29/09/2026 10:34

Hi!

Im flying into Gibraltar next month (16 October) and flying home (London) on the 25th October.

I am a French passport holder (no UK passport).

My passport expires on Dec 12th of this year, my understanding is that I can still travel using my passport even though it won’t have 3 months validity from date of return

can someone please reassure me that this is correct?

thanks! Tr

Call UK border agency helpline

If you're a visitor, it has to be valid for the entire length of your stay. Since you're living here, it's probably best to check the europa.eu or .gov.uk sites.

I THINK (really not sure at all, so please check a formal source) that, as long as you're legally resident, the UK doesn't require 3 months left on your passport when you're returning home - it's the country you're visiting on holiday that may have rules about passport validity to allow entry. So your problem isn't getting home, it's that you may not be allowed to travel - Gibraltar's rules are now the same as visiting the Schengen Area.

Alternatively, I'm not sure if this is accurate, but you could also enter the expiry date here and see what it says

You're an EU citizen returning to the EU so no issue as long as your passport is valid. Not sure as to your status for returning to the UK. I take it you have some kind of visa or settled status.

She's not a visitor to the EU, she is a citizen.

Thanks everyone!

I hold settled status in the UK (been living here for 20+ years.
