Bloody inset days

Hi all,

Husband and I have been having the same dispute for two years now and, frankly, it’s wearing me down.

Nursery have insets three times a year. Husband works from home and has plenty of holiday days left, which he usually spends on his hobby. I’m a teacher - getting the day off for insets isn’t possible. My mother has offered multiple times to help out (he’d just need to work from a WeWork or similar for the day) but my husband always rejects this idea out of hand. ‘So you’d rather get a seventy-something woman up to look after her, then go home at the end of the day. Ridiculous!’ is the usual reply.

I do everything else. Bed times, early wakes, doctor’s appointments, organising family trips. Doing all of the driving as he hasn’t learned and refuses to.

So to my question - am I being unreasonable to expect him to do the inset days when I do all other dates and events and, let’s face it, childcare for future summer holiday breaks?

Thoughts very welcome.

@DrWhosJazzyScarf You tell him that you want your DC to have a lovely day. That can be either him NOT working and atleast taking her to the park for some fresh air or your mother coming over. It can not be him working or not actively caring for your daughter. What's wrong with him? He sounds bloody selfish and selfcentered by preventing your mum from coming because his parents are useless and also not wanting to put in any effort with your child.

Thanks for this - I think this is the route I’ll be taking. Previously, he’s actually lied to me and said he’s taken the day as holiday, when in fact he’s continued to try to work with DC in the background. Even got a bit cross with her for making noise during a meeting. I won’t accept that any more.

He’s away with his hobby for 5 nights (including a 4-day stretch) this month, so frankly one day of caring for his child is the least he can do.

What the flip have I just read ? He’s a parent and he spends all of his annual leave on his hobby ? None of it on family holidays or family time or childcare ??!!
he won’t learn to drive ? And won’t take his child on public transportation??!!!
how do you have any patience with this ?!!
I wouldn’t stand for it
he's living his single man best life while everything falls to you

I've read some stuff on here over the years but this takes the biscuit. He's done a number on you here OP. Post more and find out what other shit he's tried to blame you for.

Yep! You and your child deserve better. He has a cushy life at your expense and is doing nothing to alleviate your stress. You are a single parent, breadwinner with a cock lodger!

I'm a TA, and coparent with my DC dad.
He once suggested it was my turn to cover an inset day. I said that was fine, as long as he was going to cover half of the holidays so I could use some of my time off for myself, like he gets to. He hadn't even thought about how much more he'd have to do if I worked year round!

He books insets off before I mention them now.

Your husband is a prick.
