AIBU to be concerned about repeated incidents in reception playground?

Our son has just started reception and in three short weeks he has been pushed in the playground causing him to fall to the floor and bang his head. I was given an accident slip at pick up but the teacher just said he had a bump, there was no mention of the other child pushing him until our son told us. He has been pushed over a second time by another child. Her has been hit by a girl in his class. Our son has also told us about a boy pinning another boy on the floor and hitting him in the back and a boy putting a piece of net around another child’s neck. Another child had a big bruise from being hit or pushed and we have spoken to other parents who have had similar issues with their own children including a stick in a child’s face.

I know there is going to be pushing and shoving in school but we are really concerned with how much and how quickly. We raised it and had a call from the headteacher who was really defensive. Are we valid in our concerns? I don’t want our 4 year old going to school and being hurt every other day.

The best option is to speak to school about your concerns.

If you’ve got worries talk to the school, but be warned at that age it’s very much tit for tat! I was one of those parents who never made a big fuss as I realised it could be my child doing it the next week!

Yabu. Reception class children are not reliable - they are easily led, fill in the blanks etc. you can only ask questions about your own child, ask for them to call you if there are any physical incidents rather than an accident slip.

Yanbu.. no child should be getting hurt at school

Ask the teacher about it. If it was the same child pushing him over and hitting him, I’d be really concerned but it honestly sounds like a bunch of little ones just learning boundaries. My nephew is in year one and week 1 won star of the week, then week 2 kicked a girl who kept telling him he had to go stand somewhere he didn’t want to (when his teacher said he didn’t have to). These things just happen sadly!
