Neighbours’ wind chimes

Our elderly neighbours have large, noisy wind chimes.
We live in quite a windy area so they are fairly constantly dinging away. I think they are decent quality ones so it’s not a horrendous noise but it is pretty much 24-7 and it gets annoying.

You can hear it in some rooms of the house even with the windows shut and doors closed.
And when doors/windows are open or we are in our garden they are very loud.

The reason I’ve not said anything before is that we are not a very quiet household ourselves. The kids play outside and the dog barks sometimes but the difference is that these noises don’t happen all hours of the day and I do try to minimise them.

We’ve had 2 visitors recently who commented that the wind chimes kept them awake.
I’m in 2 minds as to whether to mention it to neighbours or not. Maybe ask if they could take them in at night when it’s particularly windy?

YANBU- ask them to take them in at night (and hopefully they’ll forget to put them back out again)

YABU- you’ve got a nerve when your kids and dog make noise too

If it’s keeping you awake then yeah I’d go and tell them

For the love of God! Wind chimes are optional and it is extraordinarily easy to not have them disturbing people.

Dogs and children are normal parts of daily life that can occasionally be noisy.

Once you’re monitoring them and teaching them not to be a nuisance, they aren’t in the least comparable.

The neighbours are in the wrong.

You wouldn't be unreasonable to ask them to silence them at night. During the day, they are allowed to have them though and you would be unreasonable to do anything sabotaging to them.

Opposite us had them ( years ago ) on their front door porch thingy. Which meant they were directly opposite our bedroom. Eventually after several nights of these things waking us up ( we’ve since found out the family that lived there used their back bedroom so probably could not hear them ) my husband got up in the middle of the night and masking taped them together. I think the message must have been received as they disappeared.
