Is 4 hours pw enough for a cleaner to clean a small house?

Small 2 bed house. Kitchen, bathroom, downstairs loo, 2 small reception rooms.

We have dogs and older kids. It is a bit cluttered.

Cleaner just does a "once round", never moves things, doesn't get cobwebs, hoovers and mops the middle of the floor, cooker hood grimy, dusts occasionally but only one room, leaves under sink drips.

Am I expecting too much from 4 hours a week (in 2 visits)?

She doesn't wear glasses when she should (needs new ones apparently) and I think she can't see the dirt.

I wouldn't be happy.

Find another cleaner. I used to have one for 2 hours on a Friday who managed more than that, and it was nice to come back from work to a clean house.

Twice a week it should really be spotless.

She's taking the mick. 4 hours should be plenty to get everything done - unless your home is really, really cluttered or something.

I wouldn't try and discuss with her though, I'd just get a new cleaner and tell her that you don't need her services any more.

4 hours is plenty. Just sack her and replace. She's obviously not good at her job.

It is quite cluttered. Like each room has a doom pile. And there are boxes of toys around. I do tidy up before she comes. There aren't loose things on the floor.

Things she won't pick up and hoover underneath or behind: small rug, dog bed, laundry basket, loo brush, dog bowls, bathroom rack, kitchen and bathroom bins. She used to dust the picture frames and clean the mirrors but not any more.

I can't just get rid. She needs the money. We've got too friendly and I can't even criticise her because I don't want things to be awkward. I can ask her to do a certain task, like wipe the door frames, or sweep the cobwebs and she will do that when asked but then won't do it again unless I ask again.

It's tricky because 2 hours isn't very long so a clean would be superficial - no moving stuff. Wouldn't you be better to have her for 4 hours once a week and really bottom it? That would be my preference then do a midweek hoover and bathroom swish.

I think she's got you where she wants you if she's doing a rubbish job but also telling you she needs the money. Most (decent) cleaners are nearly fully booked; I've had to wait months and go with someone with a new business because there was no one in the area with capacity. Give her a couple of weeks notice if you feel you need to.

I do a whole hour is 2 hours I am a cleaner. I am very quick but always pick stuff up to wipe under and move stuff out the way to hoover under. Can't you just make up an excuse to say you don't need a cleaner anymore then get another one.
