Worried about letting agencies that rip off your people

Follwing from the other post of a similar title AIBU to think that some landlord and letting agencies are doing the bare minimum and sometimes less than that. Inventories that are nothing like the actual state of the property, no information provided to the students about where the bins are, how it works, broken window frames and asking students to sign pieces of paper that say they have seen the condition of the house and the inventory is correct when they haven’t. And saying ‘ooh it doesn’t matter just sign it’ when the student questions this piece of paper Not asking for any id for someone coming to collect keys. Advertising a parking space and no parking space being available when the students move in.

student lets are often like this.

my dd had to jam cardboard into a broken window to stop the wind howling through.

(they’d been promised the flat would be refurbished….)

it got repossessed by the bank half way through the let as well. Massive arguments about who to pay rent to - previous owner wanted to keep the rent going to him.

YANBU. So many letting agencies and landlords are absolute crooks who pray off the misery and ignorance of others. Negligence at it's finest.

Record everything especially when you first move in.

My DD is a uni student and her 2nd year house was awful.

Reporting anything took ages to get sorted. The washing machine broke and they had to wait over a week before anyone came to see to it. A new one was required, so a wait of another few days for it to be delivered and installed. Then the toilet kept blocking with water rising from the shower also. Another wait of a week for a plumber to come out to them so all 8 in the house had to share one toilet right on the top floor. The list is endless.

The extortionate amount they were being charged for a substandard house with dodgy heating, and things that clearly didn't work properly was hideous.

Then when they had to contact the agents working for the landlord all they got was 'eye rolls' and 'huffing' and general rudeness for daring to raise their issue.

There rare three professions I despise, politicians, solicitors and letting agents. All in to make money out of vulnerable people.
