I snapped earlier and I feel so awful now :(

we went to a lovely restaurant earlier

I have been working hard for the last few weeks

got there and I fancied a main course only as I wasn't feeling great on the journey there. was told this was not possible as it was a set menu 90 pounds per head

not happy with that as it was not displayed anywhere on the website but said nothing

got to the table and could hear some of the waitresses saying I had asked if I could only have a main course they all looked over - I made it clear I heard them found this very rude

my girls were well behaved they had books and toys

at the end of the meal they were getting restless so I took out markers for them on their colouring books was sitting helping them and one of the waitresses who had been rude to us earlier abruptly came over to tell us they had to be put away , I snapped and said I found that to be unfair

( I should not have snapped I know this)

now I feel awful

did not leave a tip also (would normally tip very well)

Why are you taking children to a fine dining type restaurant that you have done no research on?

lots of kids have been there

I would have thought that a restaurant charging 90 per head would have better customer service to be honest. Did you have to pay the full wack or did they let you just order a main meal?

I had some of my girls soup and some of the bread

I did not want a full 4 course experience sadly

they have always allowed customers to have a main etc

Dont dwell on this. Just don’t go back. It sounds shit. And expensive

So you paid £90 and only had a few mouthfuls of soup?, if you were feeling that ill why didn't you just cancel the meal?

Was this “ all or nothing” deal the only way you could order food? Was there not an à la carte menu running along side it? If not, the restaurant is going to lose out on a lot of customers.
Some people only order a starter and main, some order a main and a dessert. I’ve been known to order a starter and a dessert , if I’m so inclined.
Forget it, it sounded shit and don’t go there again. If you feel like giving a scathing review , that might give you closure.

I had motion sickness from the journey

I had some of the soup the girls ordered and the bread that was set out on the table

So you just ordered the kids meals and ate some of theirs ? Were you maybe w but embarassed as you didn’t know the price?

I should have treated everyone to a take away

I should have known better to be perfectly honest

so really in fairness was just an overall bad decision

We were considering going out for Christmas Day lunch but at £130 a head we hastily reverted back to eating at home. £90 a head for something you weren’t well enough to eat and horrible staff? Was it for an occasion or am I woefully out of touch?

Anyway, my litany of unhelpful comments aside, I hope you’re feeling better soon Op and don’t feel bad for being a little brusque - it might feel like snapping to you but the staff sounded surly and rude. It sounds like you met them where they were at.

Don't feel bad, because they were rude. OK, maybe you should have researched, and no doubt you will next time, but you're (probably!) old enough to remember when we all just went out and didn't google restaurants before going. And if your kids are well behaved, why shouldn't they go? As a little kid, I could eat more than most adults (and could behave better than some). Not that my parents could have afforded it, but I'd have loved what you describe here. And if you can afford it, good on you, and unless they advertised no kids, why not?

I don’t understand actually how you had the conversation before even seated at the table on only wanting a main course, I’ve never said that till I ordered.

They wouldn’t allow you to order a main course by itself, but we’re happy to have you sit there ordering nothing at all?

I don’t get this: you went out to this type of restaurant but didn’t order anything at all and then picked through one of your kids’ leftovers?? I would have thought you quite weird but that didn’t give the staff the right to be rude. And rude they were. I’d leave a review tbh.
