I've created a conundrum. WWYD?

I've just vacuumed. I was in the kitchen and saw what looked like a bundle of hair on the floor - or a spider with very long legs.
So,💡 I crouched down and blew on it 🌬️ to determine which 🕵️ and it went shooting into the corner under the counter. I blew again and it bundled up. 😳

That's what prompted the big guns vacuum coming out. 🙄

Now, I'm in a bit of a pickle because I have a canister vacuum and have to figure out how to safely open it to empty. 🤔
I figured vacuuming after sucking up the hair/spider would sandwich it in between dust and dirt, effectively trapping it. 🤗

But, I am not looking forward to opening the canister trap door and potentially having an angry spider jump out. 🙈😫

I'm also wondering how intrepid the spider is 🦹 and if it will try to escape the vacuum. If, of course, it is a spider. 🤔

I should add, normally I use the "large cup or jar and sturdy paper method" to catch spiders and release them outside. I'm not a monster.

AIBU to throw the vacuum into the garbage and buy a new one?

That's what I'm worried it might come to.
Am I spiralling? 😨

Little bit, yeah.

Lifelover16 · 26/09/2026 21:30

Throw the whole vacuum cleaner in the bin and buy a new one.

Dont hoover him up.

Just ask him to pay more rent?!

Might leave you alone.

I think I might be have created a hostage situation. Do you really think it would be receptive to me asking it to pay me at this point? It will either seek compensation or retribution. I'm hooped.

I hoovered up a spider and became so concerned it would be able to climb back out I ended up throwing my hoover into the garden until I could get someone to empty it 😂

Lifejigsaw · 26/09/2026 21:33

You could try not hoovering up living creatures?

Lookatmelookatmedontevenlookatme · 26/09/2026 21:34

Leave, OP. Leave, and never look back.

I see you have been navel gazing back of class. 🙄

Where do you live? I quite like spiders, I'll come and rescue him. He can be company for the one that's living in the corner of my kitchen.

JoshLymanSwagger · 26/09/2026 21:49

Thinking about it, their eggs are really tiny - so if it's a female about to lay, you wouldn't know and your vacuum cleaner might actually be infested in a few weeks with a whole new colony.

Sleep well.
