To be secretly happy my least favourite colleague has been sacked?

They were rude, nasty, disrespectful and never really did the work they were meant to do. They’ve been sacked with immediate effect and I’ll never see them again.

AIBU to secretly be glad that the arrogant knob has finally faced some consequences for their actions?!

I have worked alongside some horrors iver the years and freely admit to a small smile of satisfaction when one or two of them got their marching orders 🤣🤣

Well we were all happy when a manager moved on, she was in the post about 6 months and useless, the students knew she didnt know her subject area..later we found out she had fake documents and diplomas. At the first meeting she held, she announced...." you will all obey me ...if not I will treat you like the blacks back home in S Africa...".....this was in an fe college and true !!..we have heard she got a better job with a govt dept...appalling.

When I worked at a supermarket, we had some useless staff. The ones that moaned about everything, did the minimum amount of work. When they did work, they were useless- putting cat food in the dog food (doesn’t the photo of a cat give the clue away).

When the colleagues got sacked, left, we were glad when they were gone.

One colleague went on sick due to ‘stress’. ‘Stress’ of having to work. She decided to leave after 6 months of being on the sick

It was no surprise when a colleague was EVENTUALLY sacked.

They were absolutely dumbfounded and shocked that it happened.

The kicker was the statements submitted to HR from around 20 colleagues all describing their behaviour over the course of well over a decade.
These were people that they considered to be on friendly terms with.

It took over a year in the HR process to suspend then sack.

They honestly had no idea where it had all come from.

They were an absolute nightmare to work with and a huge HR headache.
They were a relief at no longer having to spend hours with them was huge.

Not unreasonable at all! Very human reaction !

WalmartWitney · 26/09/2026 19:25

Oooooh yes. I've had this happen. I had a small hand in it too (nothing major and not immediate, the final chop was totally down to them).

I revelled in it. Made my working life there infinitely nicer!

Why are the fckers always men?

They're not.

If you haven’t experienced it , it’s easy to underestimate quite how bad it is working with someone nasty.
35 + hours a week of that is soul destroying.

So true, when I was bullied at work it dominated my existence and the only time I felt any relief was on Friday at 5pm as I knew I had two whole days away from this hideous person. I did a dance of joy when i got another job and got away from them. They then moved onto a new target, my replacement and this poor woman made an attempt on her life it got so bad. Bully was sacked; I was long gone by this time but I felt so happy that some justice had been done.

They're not.

My experience of over 20 years teaching was that the most evil nasty bullies were generally all women....only met one very unpleasant man who i avoided so never got caught up in his games.

I've encountered evil nasty bullies of both sexes. Been on the receiving end of their mind games too.

Same here.

Make sure you keep those feelings to yourself- the ‘I will never have to see them again’ can really bite you on the ass. I was in a similar position and a couple of years later, changed jobs. Guess who worked there too!

Same here. I worked with some god awful managers and the majority of them were women 😬

Don't be secretly happy, be openly happy. Create a victory dance.

Write a rap that encapsulates how you feel about the departing colleague and perform it in the main office as he/she goes.

Celebrate the loss of your annoying colleague.

ForCalmScroller · 27/09/2026 12:32

I wouldn't be secretly happy i would be saying thank god they have gone! As i often do 😂

The last store manager I dealt with was a bully. He set me up. Took the mick out of my dyslexia saying I should grow out of it as an adult. Erm, what about those who are diagnosed when adults??? Constantly crying.

In the space of 9 months he was there, he made about 13 staff leave. I was the 8th one in 4.5 months. Those who left were in our 30s and 40s. I felt bad for those who in their late 50s and 60s who have shifts to fit around grandchildren care and their elderly parents. Plus not very tech savvy. More jobs want more tech knowledge

On the news of him leaving - he wasn’t dismissed, but demoted back to the store he was at. He’s only there because there is bribery going on as his area manager says he’s a wonderful manager. Everyone cheered.

It took 10 months to find a job plus waiting 10 weeks to get various checks done- DBS etc for the civil service job. Then a month to start.

Would I have stayed in the job if it wasn’t for the store manager being a bully? Probably not now. I probably plodded out rest of 2024 as customers’ behaviour is disgraceful, rude, impatient etc.

Customers have no idea how their behaviour is making retail workers leave. Behaving like that achieves nothing positive.

anon666 · 27/09/2026 17:42

Yanbu.

I mean, being delighted that your least favourite colleague had died, that would be going too far.

Being quietly satisfied that your most hated gaslighting, manipulative, bullying ex-boss has a life-limiting disease. That would be bad.

But sacked for being a pompous prick - that's just justice.

Tuesdayschild50 · 27/09/2026 19:52

Not at all...thats a result serves them right.

Rottweilermummy · 28/09/2026 08:34

There are people at work who make us not want to go, you dread going in because of them and then they leave/ get sacked and now you can actually enjoy going to work also realising that it wasn't just you that didnt like them i'm sure you won't be the only one celebrating their sacking lol, Hope they learn their lesson and become a better person in their next job.
