To keep my three nephews up all night?

I am having my three nephews over for a sleepover. They’re six, just turned two and five months. The eldest has slept over a few times but not the younger two.

Instead of wrestling them into bed I am planning to let them stay up as late as they like. I’ve always done this with the eldest and he loves it and usually falls asleep at about 10:30pm. I’ll obvious have the baby in his crib but I’ve got a huge corner sofa so I’m going to bring the duvets down and we can just have a slumber party downstairs.

I told my friend who has two sons and she thinks that this will impact their whole week and their schooling and routine and probably exam results and future careers.

I’m not going mad am I? This is fine for one fun evening?

mine too
fond memories

But I am guessing older than 2, and our kids were at home with their mum so all vey familiar and comfy.

It’s not a sleepover if you’re at home with your mother.

Why quote me? I didn’t say it was a sleepover

Lemonbiccie · 29/09/2026 19:14

Will you have go around child proofing things @Upfiner ?

That is a lot for one person who hasn’t ever parented before to have stay over a tiny baby, a toddler and 6 year old in her own home. Good luck… hope you have an easy day planned for the next day as your routine liable to be a bit skewed! Enjoy the sleepover

Not really relevant then.

No, I don’t think that’s necessary.

At 5 months - very unlikely will sleep in common lounge with everyone very highly excited. They are MUCH more aware of surroundings and noise.

At 3 weeks? Yes.

Depends if they are used to it.

No, I don’t think that’s necessary.

You don’t think necessary to child proof your home when you have a 2 year old and a 6 year old regularly coming to your home?

pre children when I used to have my sister’s young children over regularly - I was so so uptight about safety! I was acutely aware I was a single person with no children at the time - and my home reflected that fact is sharp corners, unlocked cupboards with cleaning stuff, doors that can slam on little fingers etc

different if they rarely visit but by the sounds of it - these children are over at yours very regularly

anyway, it’s like screaming in to the abyss i think.

I have 3 DC and my house always had doors and furniture with corners. All survived.

No one can suggest anything on this thread without a couple of very very dedicated mumsnetters pouncing.

I will leave you to it

The baby is obviously too little to be put to bed without me being there anyway so will be with me regardless.

It isn’t going to be a gentle, quiet evening. The older two will be excited.

At five months and just turned two, you should be making every effort to make sure they have a calm sleep space, should they want it. Refusing to provide that for the babies doesn't make you a fun auntie, it makes you a neglectful auntie.

Well the eldest has survived these dangers.

Sure. You had him alone.

It never occurred to me to childproof my home in any way when friends or relatives brought their young children round to my house. They knew my house and I really don’t think the onus was on me to make adaptations - if the parents had been concerned about my ability to look after their children, then they wouldn’t have left them in my house. I didn’t do much in the way of childproofing when I had my own child - I put a few socket covers in place, stuck round things on one coffee table, and fitted stair gates at the top and bottom of the stairs, but other than that, I just kept an eye on her and she managed to get through her childhood without any mishaps.

And he’s six now, and the baby is immobile. I don’t plan to let the two year old crack on on his own.

You sound quite a morose person! I really hope this goes ahead and you enjoy. Sounds loads of fun for all and nice to have plans in the diary

Or perhaps sarcastic. There is no reason that it would be cancelled.
