AIBU to think my friend is overdoing emergency stockpiling?

I get that we have been advised to stock up on essentials, though I think it will encourage panic buying. I will probably get a few days worth of stuff at some point . My friend however has, at least in my opinion gone ott about it. She’s stocking up a six month supply of food. She’s bought head torches, a camping gas stove and various other stuff. She thinks I’m being naive …Am I missing something here ?

The UK is looking better for gas than the EU at least. However we take gas from the Zeebrugge terminal and given all the other EU ones are half empty that means we are still in trouble.

Oh and we have no defence against drones so we might want to think about this too. National security and social security and all that.

worth checking the rolling blackout list to see which days your particular postcode is affected. Each postcode is given a load number and there is a schedule which shows when each postcode is affected on the rota.

I have attached the rota. This is level 1 disruption which is 3 blocks of 3 hour rolling (planned) power cuts per week. Not to freak anyone out but it goes up to level 18 which is full blackout.

Just to explain how you read this. Go to your electricity bill or use the link to find the letter for your postcode. Then read across the rota. So I am E. This means under a rolling blackout schedule we would have three blocks of three hour blackouts a week. Mine would be at the beginning of the week - Monday and then two on Tuesday.

Some letters only have two blocks in the first level of disruption. This typically means you live right next to a high priority building eg a hospital etc. So you are impacted slightly less.

Anyone else noticed the price of bottled water escalating? We paid 1.20£
for a flagon of water from Tesco, my OH insists was 99p@4years ago,
when it was delicious Ashbeck now unavailable, water now is from the
Lake District apparently.

Has anyone bought tinned sardines in the last few days?

I missed a bit out - we were paying 1.20£ for a 5l flagon for a while,
last week we paid 1.60£ and today it is £1.65p

Lidl had plenty in stock few days ago. They did not have my fave mackerel in spring water so I take it as changing that stock to jack mackerel 😒 was hoping to top up before that happens. Plus it was still acceptable price

I'm not buying the bottled water, I'm keeping and washing all my milk containers and filling those with tap water as I already pay enough in water charges. They're stowed wherever they'll fit in odd places around the house.
Edited to add re sardines I've been having trouble getting plain ones in oil or brine.

Good tip on the milk containers. My only worry is if they were not completely spanking sterile clean the water could be contaminated. How are you washing them out?

Also, while tinned fish is a subject, can you really tell the difference between tinned sardines and tinned mackerel, because I can't but my DH swears there's a difference and wants to eat both which annoys me because sardines are soooo much cheaper? I'm aware of the jack mackerel issue, so this is a slightly redundant question.

There is a difference. It's different flavour. Sardines are fishier, much stronger. Not sure how to explain it but I tried to use each in some of my fave recipes like sardine spread and it just wouldn't work really. I don't know if oil makes it less noticable, because it's been ages since I had in oil.

I find my life is so much happier when I don't judge the actions of others when it doesn't impact on me. Maybe just leave her to do what makes her feel secure.

Good news folks.

An American refinery has been offline today because of a power outage. They had been running all the refineries to max capacity, to prevent shortages and now this one, a big one, has broken. Woop.

Also. Turns out a second pump on the Saudi pipeline was also blown up. More repairs needed.

Oh and the Yemenis have taken more islands this having a great control of the Red Sea entrance.
