Three words that may derail any plans Burnham has and any noble intentions he may hold.

Im not a Reform supporter. Im a Conservative. I wish the Conservatives had these mega donations. But its a free country and as long as everything is open I can't get too hyped up. And I do think Labour with their tied-in income from the unions have had it too much their way for so long.

But to join a union means you are having to support Labour financially even if you don't want to. If you are right wing theres no way you can "influence its direction" by joining a union. And Labour (to coincide a phrase) are still far too in hock to the unions at the moment.

Hmm, and yet Labour planned to house immigrants in more ‘middle class’ areas.

Speaking of punishment, Labour have punished many groups - groups which would not have ordinarily vote for them.

One of the reasons you had sub-postmasters so let down by the Post Office is that they did not have proper union representation. Their union had been downgraded to a trade association and was far too cosy with the PO to provide support to those needing it. We know what happened.

No the reason they were let down was that the management were criminally inept.

Anyway this is not a discussion about the pros and cons of union membership. This is a discussion about political donations and what is fair. And whether its fair to have political donations from special interests such as the unions or C currency billionaires.

I’ve no opinion on that, though I don’t know that I’d describe them as middle class areas. The unused barracks are mainly in fairly rural
spots, no-one is targeting middle class areas.

I live quite close to a large asylum accommodation centre. It doesn’t bother me.

I recall years ago the conservatives did get bigger donations from very wealthy men. Who I suspect moved their money, companies offshore years ago because their party went wishy-washy.

Ordinary members quit, no more fundraising around here anyway. I once bought some lovely marmalades and jams from my neighbours who invited me to an afternoon tea, nibbles and things for sale.

I don't think that the unions are donating as much these days or their membership is as large in the labour party.

I suspect many are fed up or disinterested in politics these days in the two largest parties.

The greens may have a lot of grass root supporters who will knock on doors, deliver leaflets and actually talk to people.

Reform certainly do here. They visit country fairs/shows . Our charity had a stand and marquee next to Reform and it was very busy. Their kettle was on all day.

Good on the women of Piddington to be taking a stand. Who better to listen to than the vulnerable women who are being put at risk in Burnham's reshuffle of towns expected to carry the burden.
