Dd4, school and tummy issues

Dd started school last week and is getting on ok so far. Seems happy and tired in the evenings, to be expected. Tonight before her bath I noticed she had a lot of poo marks in her pants as if she’d wiped herself but not done a very good job! Got her in the bath, washed her and ran to get a towel. When I got back she was acting sheepish and it turned out she’d pooed in the bath - not something she’s done since being a baby. She is very reliably toilet trained and seemed sad that this had happened.

Firstly I’m worried she’s picked up a bug as it’s so out of character. But she seems well and has eaten fine tonight. I’m also a little sad thinking that maybe it’s a response to the change in routine? It’s reminded me that even though she’s getting more independent she’s still so tiny in many ways. Is this a fairly normal thing to happen while they are adjusting? I will obviously keep an eye on her in case it’s the start of a bug which would be feasible given the new exposure to kids and germs.

I reassured her it was fine and she hadn’t done anything wrong but I’m feeling quite sad about it all. Oh and before anyone gets silly…I’ve NC as I’ve spoken to someone in real life about this and don’t want to be identified not because I’m a poo troll.

She'd probably been holding it in all day because she didn't want to do it at school, then when she was in the bath it relaxed her and she couldn't hold it any more.

I think don't make a big deal but reassure her that the school loos are nowt to be scared of. Might happen again, might not.

That has crossed my mind too :-(

Have you asked her about it? It could be that she didn’t want to poo at school, or maybe she did and she was rushed.

I tried but she was tired and just said she didn’t know.

I think this is normal OP. When my DD started pre school aged nearly 4yo she suddenly had lots of wee accidents after being reliably dry for nearly 2 years! It lasted about a week, then back to normal.

Bless her. It will pass.
