Is Braverman being unreasonable in forcing kids to sing royalist and religious songs?

What’s wrong with singing national anthem?

I was a primary teacher until very recently. The kids were constantly "forced" to sing songs and they loved it. Who cares whether its the national anthem or not?

Actually I do. It would be so much better than that boom chicka rocka chicka bollocks.

I'd tell my kids not to sing. The monarchy needs abolishing. I'm also against forced religion of any kind.

So it's a no from me.

Also does anyone take anything seriously that Braverman says? Surely not.

As Reform is not in government and Braverman has no cabinet role, I don’t think we need to worry just yet

That's a pretty debatable assertion and not one that many people from the former colonies and people who know their British history would necessarily agree with. She does not want other sons and daughters of immigrants to benefit from the same opportunities that she benefitted from, and voted to deny all British youngsters the chance to follow her in footsteps and broaden their horizons through study in Europe.

As for singing hymns - will children who are non-Christian (including Braverman's own children) or whose parents follow no religion at all also be required to sing along, or do they just stand there like lemons. Likewise those who are not British subjects or who are not Monarchists - will they be required to sing the miserble dirge in praise of the King or do they just refuse, and if they do so, with what consequences?

More pointless jingoistic nonsense from Reform that isn't going to fix anything, then?

It is such a dreary song. I don't love nationalism and I want the monarchy and religion to have as little impact on my life and my children's lives as possible. So its a no thanks from me.
I do love singing and collective singing and would very much welcome more singing and music in the curriculum. Uplifting, empowering, positive songs not dirge.

Who cares what she says. She will never be in a position to implement this.

My problems are a) that I don't believe in God and b) that I am not in support of a hereditary monarchy. So "God Save The King" is a bit meaningless to me.

But even if we had a better national anthem, I wouldn't be a fan of nationalist posturing in our schools. I would rather that they focus on education instead.

Glad that the most pressing thing that needs fixing in the education system is that kids aren't forced to sing the world's worst National Anthem every morning! Phew!

Exactly that. Celebration of the British Empire is wrong on so many levels.
