Why are people so sanctimonious about people watching TV on holiday

Why is it wrong if, on my holiday, I want to watch TV?

I see it all the time- if some posts (here, Facebook, other SM) that they are disappointed that the TV doesn't work- then there are posts after posts saying 'you can watch TV at home' 'how can you watch TV in insert beautiful location

I am currently on a UK break and the TV doesn't work- the host has said there is loads to do elsewhere.

But it is my holiday, I don't see why people accept it is ok to lie on a Sunday lounger for a week, but don't think I should have my own escape.

I don't want to read, I just want to catch up on some series in peace and quiet, is that too much to ask?

You have missed the point. I don't suppose people on holiday watch TV all day, but in the evening after being out all day.

The host is adding insult to injury, the patronising bell end!

I love watching all the foreign channels, I sit there listening to a gardening show in French, or a DIY show in Spanish or some mad political show in Italian. Havent got a clue whats going on, love it

I like the reality shows and soaps as well.

But then Im a big fan of telly, home and abroad.

Sorting photos? That sounds.... interesting

When we're away, we go out for our main meal about 9ish, earlier if we want to drink first, which we normally do. We dont drink after eating. We eat out every night when on holiday, here or abroad. After wandering round (never came across a night market in France, Spain or Italy), we get back around 12 or 1 and then have a bit of telly on with my last cuppa

In the UK, everything shuts down very early, we have to get out early as restaurants/pubs stop serving food so early. No night markets in the Cotswolds or the Norfolk Broads, we might try to stay in a pub but we dont tend to drink after eating so we'll go home and watch telly for a bit.

The first part sounds wonderful but I cannot fathom watching 4 hours of TV!

I think people should do whatever they like when they are on holiday, but I do find it strange when people want to watch television when they are away. You can do that at home, so why not save yourself a lot of money and watch television at home instead of going on holiday?

There is a holiday cottage just down the lane from us and I'm often surprised, when my husband and I walk down the lane on a warm evening to watch the sun setting over the sea, to see the large screen television in the cottage is on and the cottage's occupants are sitting round it.

That seems such a waste of a holiday to me, but there are obviously people who think the latest episode of Coronation Street (or whatever it is) is more compelling than enjoying the new and beautiful environment they have chosen and paid to be in.

It takes all sorts though...

I love my solo annual week away. Sunbathing, shopping and hours of tv back in the room. Just so I can get fully judged I book an All Inclusive so I don’t need to leave the hotel if I don’t want too 👌

Oh it’s not weird at all! When we went on holiday and put the kids to bed there’s little else to do other than watch a bit of TV. Yes we could sit on the balcony and talk but after 20 years and two kids it’s nice to sit in silence and watch Tv!

@TatianasCabbagePie fair amount of judging you have done in one post. You have no idea if they have been a 10 mile hike that day or someone is feeling under the weather or they have had a really shitty time and want to beg in front of the tv.

Love watching tv on holidays! It's even better if I've bought a load of the local snacks and crisps! I don't have to interrupt watching to make the dinner, or do the school run or do food shopping or whatever.

They dont even have to have done all that at all

I mean the poster is baulking at Corrie, perhaps something more high brow might get approval, what about a documentary about paper clips?

I tend to go to Asia so there are plenty of night markets and evening stuff. Often travel solo as well

I'm in the west of Scotland, watching TV on holiday in the sun is nothing like back home 😂.
You don't need to understand why others enjoy something though as we are all different?

I often watch tv on holiday, especially on a uk break. At home I always feel guilty for watching tv in the afternoons as there’s usually something needs doing. On holiday I can relax however I like and that includes watching tv. We always go out in the mornings until early/mid afternoon so it’s not like I’m sat there watching it all day.

I dont care what you do. I enjoyed an evening the other night sorting out the sugar/coffee/teabag/hot chocolate and condiment packets that we take on holiday. Very satisifying.

Very snooty undertones there! As I said watching TV at home emrn it's raining outside and you have work the next day is nothing like watching it in the sun with wine knowing you can lie in in the morning .

I just don't watch telly full stop. As previously stated I don't own one. So it was just a reply to whoever asked what people do instead.
