OMG Miriam Margolyes Andi Peters

Temptree · Yesterday 12:16

I've got an annual leave day today and am spending the morning shamelessly on the sofa watching daytime TV with cups of tea and biscuits after an exhausting school summer hols. Kids back at school today. I've given myself permission to vegetate till 3:15pm.
So here I am watching This Morning and have just spent 5 minutes with my jaw wide open and hand over my mouth at what Miriam Margolyes just said to Andi Peters.
Did anyone else see it??
I mean it takes a lot to shock me. I am not easily shocked.
And this woman is currently doing a sell out tour??
Whoah.

Haha, she always makes me laugh, as does Graham Norton.

I think it's quite o.k. to ask people if they are mixed race, I myself have one and many women and friends I know do too. They come in all shades.
You would never guess that a high-blonde with a very dark-skinned adult son were in anyway related.
Where I live there's all kinds of mixed race (adult) kids, asian, african, south american.

Mumsnetters getting their knickers in a twist.....

Oh dearie me!

There’s a few of these knocking around now too , it’s an excruciating watch , has made me feel anxious, especially having been on the receiving end of similar

It's incredible isn't it. What a patronising, stupid woman. 'It's about inclusion isn't it, its all in my book' 🙄.

Ugh! When she reassured him ‘don’t worry, everyone is welcome here’ or whatever words she used, absolutely shocking, made even worse by the fact that she has been so vocally against people like farage,
it feels like she has shown her true colours now, maybe the other stuff was for likes, while this is yikes 😟

ThreadGuardDog · Today 08:45

What is offensive about that?

It referenced the colour of his skin and she followed it up with a racist term. And as if that wasn’t enough she told him not to worry because ‘everyone is welcome here’. It’s the equivalent of asking a person of colour where they’re really from. And then some.

LuckyHazelFox · Today 08:46

I can't stand the woman.

You think she's funny desperately talking about her farts, or 'creaming her knickers' or telling Daniel Radcliffe bizarrely that his balls had dropped?

She is a silly attention seeker and I'm really surprised her 'what are you' question to Peters hasn't been widely and loudly condemned by high profile commentators in the media.

Its quite remarkable isnt it, the silence around this

If this was Boris, Farage, Hopkins, Starkey any of your usual hate figures who blurt things out/tell it like it is/talk the talk there would be very loud condemnation, thread after thread, talk of being cancelled, the Guardian would run a po faced article about what this means about racism in our society, blah blah blah

What has been said in newspapers about her today? What has Norton said, he's a champion of her? What have her friends said? Other actors?

In a work context? You've had meetings at work and asked a Black person about their parentage and used a racist term to them? In front of others?
Actually why is it relevant if anyone is mixed race? why would you ask them in any context? That person on the Facebook link was correct though. People shouldn't have kept inviting her on things when they know what she's like. She's a gross attention seeker and now she's done it on daytime TV.

OMG! People are so easily offended these days. I personally do not like Miriam, that is why I choose not to watch her. What I dislike even more these days, is the fact we all have to watch what we are saying, for fear of offending anyone. It is called a sense of humour. If you are easily offended, turn the TV off or do not read the newspapers. Simple!

This is the only report I've found.

This Morning bosses issue on-air warning to Miriam Margolyes as she grills host Andi Peters about his race: 'What are you?'

Her comments made them 'nervous'

Well said. She's vulgar and I don't like her gaslighting stance on antisemitism.

A sense of humour? You think people making racist comments towards others guests on live TV is funny?

Well she wasnt making a joke, the conversation wasnt about people's parentage or heritage, it wasnt about names for different ethnicities then and now. That might have been relevant if so, she could have also talked about her own heritage and also Christine Lampards, it may have been interesting

But thats not what the discussion was about, she blurted out someting utterly disconnected to the chat, made it personal about the one black person there, insinuated that he had 'come here' and was welcome. None of it makes sense. It wasnt done for humour.

My view is that she isnt well but I know others disagree. What we are all agreed on is that it wasnt funny.

Im amazed she hasnt said something herself. I wonder if she has been spoken to?

Oh not "these days" tbf it has taken a good few pages to trot out the "these days" but here we are!

Yes, that was the only report I could see. I was expecting more than that.

And conveniently for her, her feud with John Cleese has been resurrected. Loads of results about that.
