OMG Miriam Margolyes Andi Peters

Temptree · Yesterday 12:16

I've got an annual leave day today and am spending the morning shamelessly on the sofa watching daytime TV with cups of tea and biscuits after an exhausting school summer hols. Kids back at school today. I've given myself permission to vegetate till 3:15pm.
So here I am watching This Morning and have just spent 5 minutes with my jaw wide open and hand over my mouth at what Miriam Margolyes just said to Andi Peters.
Did anyone else see it??
I mean it takes a lot to shock me. I am not easily shocked.
And this woman is currently doing a sell out tour??
Whoah.

MM doesn't care and is laughing all the way to the bank. Her fans will also be absolutely delighted. They are rushing out to buy her new book. Another best seller!! She can go back to Australia where she lives ( her partner is Australian) a very happy woman, mission accomplished!

MM does this schtick to shock and outrage. She thinks she's terribly funny and eccentric whereas she's just a twat. Whoever thought it was a good idea to book her for daytime TV needs to be seriously reprimanded.

Absolutely, it's bad enough on Graham Norton. Live daytime tv? Completely inadvisable.

Uricon2 · Yesterday 17:04

I think anyone blaming generational mores and standards for this should remember that MM has a Cambridge degree awarded in the 1960s and has spent a lifetime in the entertainment industry, including parts in major films.

She knows better. She just chooses not to be better.

Robogob · Yesterday 17:05

She is a foul and creepy woman. Makes my flesh crawl. She’s really not right. Like a sociopath.

Butterflyvillage · Yesterday 17:06

Later on in the same programme Andi Peters said a very strange thing. He said he absolutely loves "awkward situations" he said he goes looking for them! The exchange with MM was definitely awkward!

She'll be disappointed she's not trending on Twitter.

One blessed relief of Elon musk shutting down the mirror sites that let you read twitter without an account (RIP Nitter, Xcancel, Twitter Web viewer) is that I no longer have the ability to check the fallout of someone very much seen as the Right Side of History and inexplicably elevated to the status of National Treasure by the Guardian or BBC today torching their supposed status so casually. The last time she was on (R4 Today) she called one Tory a fckn CNT oh how unforseen and unpredictable.

I'm sure Bluesky are handling it well. Not.

Didn't he present some T4 programmes or just produce them ?

I don't know about T4 but he was definitely producer on Top Of The Pops for a bit.

You're right.

They are presenters, they can’t exactly say “no you were a racist, offensive dickhead”

Andi Peters is doing the thing POC always have to do, smile and take it, no matter what is being said.

Utterly shocking this woman is so lauded. I mean, I love an older person saying shocking things that their generation wouldn’t normally. Judi Dench, Julie Walter’s, Helen Mirren etc will have me in stitches, but she is just vulgar.

She's somehow turned being vulgar and crude into her entire personality. This is a step too far though.

PrettyLittleRose · Yesterday 17:29

Doesn't shock me that she would say something so rude. Awful woman who thinks saying the word 'cunt' on TV is some kind of badge of honour, and begin rude and revolting is edgy and cool. Thinks she is down with the kids because she says it like it is and tells people to fuck off at the drop of a hat. Most people I know think she s bloody awful. Including my late 20-something DC.

I can't stand the 'tell it like it is' brigade anyway, but MM is particularly loathsome IMO.

Blueberrybonanza · Yesterday 17:30

I don't understand why this woman is on tv, vile creature she is. I made the mistake of trying to read one of her autobiographies I didn't finish it, her whole personality came across in every word. Even her own wife wont live with her

MargoLeadbetterisQueen · Yesterday 17:31

I remember seeing that Graham Norton show where she told that story about the men in the park. I kept waiting for the funny part. No, just crude.

Yeah 'Benevolent Racism' is a thing. Hence, Jordan Peele's 'Get Out' line...
"I would have voted for Obama for a third term if I could."

Rather at on a tangent, I loved that film, one of the strangest I have ever seen. I loved the Flanagan and Allan 40's song playing in the intro, 'Run Rabbit, Run'!

PrettyLittleRose · Yesterday 17:32

I am shocked that (according to the poll) 45% of people on the poll think that MM's behaviour is OK.

Go figure! Shock

I clicked YABU because OP posted the thread without saying what she said and it annoyed me! I'll go change it...

BigBilly · Yesterday 17:35

She is truly unbearable ... How she has not been cancelled I can't quite work out! I'd be embarrassed to be anywhere near her

BeKhakiReader · Yesterday 17:40

I think she’s absolutely vile. If she was a bloke, she’d have been cancelled by now.

AbacusCat · Yesterday 17:44

I've only heard that term on films that are deliberately highlighting racism, e.g. set in the era of American segregation.

I was expecting it to be an inappropriate sexual type of comment, which would have been bad enough.,

Triskellion75 · Yesterday 17:47

I'm watching it now, 'that bit' aside it really was a boring load of shite. Clearly this is why she relies on the schtick, she's as dull as paint.

LizzieSiddal · Yesterday 17:52

What an absolutely despicable thing to say to him. She’s a racist, nasty piece of work and I hope she never works again.

When people tell us who they are, listen.

LizzieSiddal · Yesterday 17:53

Blueberrybonanza · Yesterday 17:42

I know!

To be fair, a lot of people may have voted that way because the OP did not include what she actually said!

Lalgarh · Yesterday 17:54

Any apologies from her..?

Dweetfidilove · Yesterday 17:55

The little gargoyle is racist! Colour me stunned 🙄.
Mumsnetters are making excuses for her behaviour... Again, colour me stunned 😞.
