She clearly said no trousers allowed so probably not Clifton College.

I don't understand the concept of uniform or 'office wear' in 6th Form when in 2 short years most of them will be at university and basically wearing anything they want.

My all girls school got rid of uniform for the 5th year in 1978 (!!) with the caveat that "you are not at a disco, ladies" and after a week of fashion parade, we all looked quite normal, well, by the standards of 1978.

Love long skirts but if that was imposed on me, I'd be heading for the nearest FE college.

Looks impractical for getting about - up and downstairs, on the bus etc.

Most sixth forms in our area are non uniform but with some guidelines about appropriateness

Can’t see it catching on where I invigilate. Most skirts barely cover the backsides.

You can only cycle on a step-through bike with a skirt like this (that is what step-throughs were invented for), which would mean buying another bike for most keen cyclists as all sporting bikes (MTBs, road etc) have a top tube. Having said that, most of the young cyclists I coach have a ‘beater’ for going to school and use their good bikes for competing and training.

Have you ever worn a maxi skirt? It isn't impractical on buses. You just take a handful and lift the skirt a little. Just like with a wedding dress etc.

Miss Brodie's girls would definitely have tried to roll that skirt. Mary McGregor would not.

My friend who is Muslim and went to a nicer school than me (I went to the equivalent of bash street with no uniform) wore skirts like that to school

Why won't op just say what school it is? Their uniform is hardly a secret that needs to be kept.

Happy to be corrected as it's a while since I lived there but I know the independent schools in Bristol pretty well and there's no other independent school in the city with a long skirt option for sixth form.

Old fashioned and oppressive pretty much go hand in hand don't they?
Having to ride side saddle because it's unacceptable for you to ride a horse properly, is extremely oppressive.

I think it’s gorgeous in a dark academia/Mary Poppins kind of way, but it’s completely impractical for a modern education.

We wore maxi skirts in the 90s with oversize jumpers and cardigans and penny loafers, clogs were banned (memories). It's not a big deal, they're probably screening out the types who would make it a big deal. Win win.

Why can't all school uniforms be trousers, for both sexes? So much more practical.

Marlborough college sixth has a similar dress code, I thought the girls would hate it, but they apparently really like it, most wear their pyjamas underneath when it is cold. The rest of the school have mid shin length kilt type skirts and long to be in the full length sixth form attire...

We have that length skirt - state school - girls can also wear trousers but I’d estimate a good 95% wear the skirt. Definitely no rolling issues!

I remember this. I used to wear a skirt almost trailing the ground and vaguely recall their being some elf and safety concerns from the school about the length and asked us to wear them a bit shorter!
