This trend (on Insta etc) for referring to inanimate objects as "she"........it is infuriating - handbags, holiday homes, bronzer......make it stop! I'm a 50 year old women and largely follow women of a similar age. It's infantile and ridiculous. AiBU?

I only really encountered this when wedding dress shopping (with a friend). ‘Now this dress is Layla, she’s an a-line silk blah blah’. It took a while to stop myself actually looking for Layla.

I can just about imagine an enthusiast using ‘she’ for a particularly beloved (there’s another word being abused recently) vintage bus. If I heard someone at a bus stop talking about ‘her’ being on time or not, however, I’d find it very weird.

And while we are on the topic of misused language may i call out one of the most overused and incorrectly used words that has now been all but stripped of meaning, it is iconic. Why is every bloody thing from a crisp flavour though to a lipstick by way of TV series iconic? An icon was of course a religious picture or a symbol of a large concept or a very famous person (and no this does not mean someone who was once on Love Island or got the the quarter finals of X Factor 15 years ago) and now it's every other bloody thing. I am not one for banning things but I wish icon/iconic could have a very long holiday

'She' for ships etc is pretty much frowned on in the publishing world these days, so I'm surprised to hear about it being used for handbags and bronzers. It's very annoying and if I heard someone IRL say that I would want to slap them.

I also dislike hearing people referring to their young dogs as "little man" or their boy children that either.

I've never seen this. I'm 50 and I barely go on Instagram. When I do it's all cute animal videos and classic Hollywood dance routines, not vapid influencers. I never see anything like that as I'm not interested.

So wrong. Objects are not male/female or masculine/feminine at all. It is the WORD which is masculine or feminine. And it’s LA table in French by the way - which other posters will have pointed out by now.

Yes, this she malarky is nauseating. This has nothing to do with ships etc, that has been a long tradition. This is about somebody saying she once in reference to something like a handbag and then it run like wildfire among the influencers, who just copy each other these days. Along with the aforementioned obsessed, it’s giving, the tapping. Another one is this cutesy (in their head) wiggle of the shoulder for no reason. They should just all come on and baa like a sheep because that is what they are, that could be their shorthand so they can drop all the other infantile mannerisms. It is bad enough young women do it, really cringe making when older women do it. It’s giving desperate, tap tap.
