Can they get any dummer? Just discovered a show where ADULTS are building sandcastles. What a load of shite.

Hmm. Not my cup of tea, but I bet there's more to it than putting sand in a bucket and turning it upside down.

Some of the sand sculptures I've seen in various seaside towns are pretty incredible. I think you're wording it to make it sound shit when it's probably pretty good

Raspbellies · 01/09/2026 20:07

It's easy family viewing. Don't be so critical about something sweet and fun.

11AndCounting · 01/09/2026 20:16

They can probably spell "dumber".

I was actually thinking, what does dummer mean 😂

LlynTegid · 01/09/2026 20:23

There is skill involved, and it is being promoted for what it is.

Unlike fake 'reality' tv where those involved are advised what to say, or The Apprentice which is at least 10 years out of date in the way most business is conducted, or a tax dodging family with a man in a dress in a fold mouthed disgrace that is termed a comedy.

HobgoblinNorFoulFiend · 01/09/2026 20:24

I agree it sounds shit and stupid. But no stupider than watching people cooking or baking or knitting or kicking a football around or driving in circles for bloody hours!

PurplebudsWhitebuds · 01/09/2026 20:46

I don't know what the programme is but I was thinking it sounded refreshingly uncontroversial and actually quite interesting. But then I was brought up in a seaside town and making sand castles and sand racing cars and sand crocodiles on the beach was a normal pass time. There was sometimes proper organised competitions for the best sand sculpture. Gosh those were innocent times compared to now!

11AndCounting · 01/09/2026 21:06

Some of the sculptures look pretty amazing.

I'd much rather watch that than another variant of "Look at these People Cooking", or "Who Danced the Best?".

Oh - and Tratiors, obviously.

ExtraOnions · 01/09/2026 21:17

I quite like it..

Yes they have a programme on Sandcastles … but also The Sky at Night, Horizon, Real CSI, Small Prophets, any number of Attenborough documentaries, Emergency 24/7, The Other Bennet Sister, Only Connect etc

The whole point is that they create a variety of programmes, for a variety of tastes.

OutOfTheOtherSide · 01/09/2026 21:40

There are several BBC channels, iplayer, radio stations, podcasts or you could look at one of their websites. Or you could consume a totally different channel. Or switch the TV off and read a book. Or talk to your family. There are several options in life other than watching a programme you don't enjoy. Can you get any 'dummer' than wasting your life doing something you don't like?

CorporalJohn · 02/09/2026 07:31

I'll take sandcastle building over that utter shite "Casualty" any day.

Sartre · 02/09/2026 07:33

Well not every programme will suit every viewer obviously but luckily for you we live in an age where choice is not an issue…

OttersOnAPlane · 02/09/2026 07:36

At least they can spell.

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 02/09/2026 07:38

It's a nice, relaxing, family-friendly show (from the description I've seen).
The BBC do a good job on reducing budgets.

NotAnotherScarf · 02/09/2026 07:46

I dislike the way that the bbc has gone on the last 20 years, bias, dumbing down , presenters who don't fit their ideas git rid of. The fact that they plead poverty yet pay astronomical amounts to people who could easily be replaced by better qualified and cheaper alternatives.

But at the centre there's a core of people who are bloody good at their jobs and make great programmes. The trouble is that the management focus groups won't let them make them

I’ve seen one where we’re all expected to watch people BAKE CAKES!
Give me my licence fee back.
