To regret the colour of my bedroom

We're moving into a new house and I spend a lot of time deliberating over which colour to paint my bedroom. Green is my favourite colour and a lot of things I own are green - clothes, my phone, my car, my old car and much more. I considered other colours but thought I should go with green as it's my favourite... what could go wrong?

Well the shade of green I've chosen is proving tricky to work with and I now see a lot of inspiration pictures on instagram making me regret my choice. You will see from the photo it's not horrible but the problem is I also want green lampshades, curtains, accessories etc. Which is too much bloody green. If I'd gone with a more neutral colour I could've had green as the accent! I'd repaint it right now but it's a big room and the paint was quite expensive, I got it from Valspar at B&Q and they gave me heavy duty instead of normal so it was a bit dear.

What do I do, repaint the room or just deal with it. I think I want cream carpet but don't really want cream curtains, it's a bit plain. I actually want deep blood red curtains but most people in my life are telling me they will look awful!

YABU - it's fine (give me ideas for which other colours I could incorporate)

I love the colour and would go with neutral furnishings, possibly with a modern floral print or a geo depending on your taste. I love the look of natural fabrics in neutral colours.

I agree, a pale neutral wall & green accessories is the way to go.

It's a bit cheap looking to me and would look horrendous with red curtains.

I like it! I also have a green bedroom.
But I would not add any more colour to the room, and definitely not any more green! Pale neutral carpet/curtains/bedding is the way to go. The only exception would be a throw or some cushions or something in a dark blush pink.

What furniture is going in there OP? I think a dark wood would suit it best.

I’d keep it if you like it, and go with neutral accents, curtains, bed linen, contrasting artwork…

I love it! You could either go for a soothing botanical look by adding fabric prints and pictures in creams and lighter greens, maybe some light pink or yellow, or pair it with a deep terracotta pink for a bolder look.

Green is my favourite colour too, but even this is too much for me. It just looks too bright for a bedroom, there are far nicer, more relaxing shades.

Blood red curtains are a no no with this shade. If you must add another colour , pink will work better with green , but with this shade of green, finding a pink to match would be difficult . If you have to live with it, I would stick to wood furnishings and natural colours, but in all honestly, I think I would chalk it up to an expensive mistake and repaint it.

Sage type green is one of my favs, but this is full on green. I don't think I could live with it, sorry. But yes, break it up with furniture, pictures, maybe some black shelves. I'd not put all the green curtains etc up though. I guess see how you get on?!

Yep dark wood, I like this chest of drawers from Dunelm but hoping to find some preloved furniture too! And gold/brass coloured handles, light switches etc.

It's a bit of a tricky green to work with buy you can absolutely make it work.
Your possibilities are virtually endless.
Monochrome: choose a much darker green for your accessories which will give you a well balanced feel. Very soothing for bedrooms.
Dyadic: introduce pink. You can go lighter than your green or darker. Or both.
Triadic: Introduce vibrant orange-red in small doses and lighter cooler blue.

It's hard to envision in an empty room but this can absolutely work.
If you are not confident with colour, then stick to neutral tones for furnishings and accessories which will soften the effect.

I am painting my bedroom dark green (Lick Green 05) and I am planning to introduce dusty pinks and just a tiny touch of red.

Id go Versailles with that pinks light blues etc tons of colour

I love it personally. Just go for it. I had a similar colour from Next I would say 26 years ago! I'm trying to think what went with it! Just live a little and don't listen to the naysayers.

I like it. A totally empty room with bold walls rarely looks good.

you need some natural wood texture like the image in a past post.
id also get some cream / light neutral carpet with some curtains like this.
William morris curtains they’re probably not the right shade of green so it’s just for inspo but the pattern means they don’t look green.

dont paint 3 walls cream and leave a feature wall. It looks naff and you still have the sand issue of balancing the green. Instead of lean into it.

get some neutral bedding with a subtle pattern. Even include a bit of green in it and add a nice textured throw in complementary neutral colour.

use lots of natural wood and natural fibres to make it feel cosy

Um, THIS is what you’re worried about? 😭 Like, too bad paint is famously permanent and walls can never be repainted I guess?? Seriously though, if you hate the green, change it and if you're not sure if you hate it, live with it for a bit and see how it looks once the room is actually furnished. This may be the most fixable problem anyone has ever had.

I think it needs some darkness rather than whites. What about adding layers of darker greens, greys and black e.g. dark curtains, duvet, rugs etc. Black curtain pole, black picture frames and then wooden furniture.

Or if you want red go for lots of multi coloured accessories.

Or juat go with lots of light wood and plants.

I really like it. But to me it looks quite similar to Breakfast Room Green, which is what I have in my bedroom! So I guess it's personal taste.

FWIW I have white-painted floorboards, white wardrobes, and a dark cerise pink chest of drawers; I also have some very dark brown furniture (a desk and a big antique coffer), and it is broken up with pictures and mirrors.

I can see how red could work as a bold colour clash, but I would personally find it a bit much in a bedroom. But green works so well with all sorts of pinks, and some grey/blue shades, so you should be able to find something to make it feel good?

It will look so different with all your furniture and pictures, OP! Fear not. I would live with it a while before deciding to repaint. I think creamy curtains with a green print (leaves?) would look nice. You should have the colours you love in your house! (Which is why I have a stylised modern leopard print on the wall in one room of my house 😍).

Complementary colour is pink so try that. I don't mind the cactus green. It is a bit like pistachio.
Red is dark green Pink is for light

I agree with pink to break it up. My adult dd has a pink and green bedroom, it’s sort of botanical and it’s lovely.
