To regret the colour of my bedroom

We're moving into a new house and I spend a lot of time deliberating over which colour to paint my bedroom. Green is my favourite colour and a lot of things I own are green - clothes, my phone, my car, my old car and much more. I considered other colours but thought I should go with green as it's my favourite... what could go wrong?

Well the shade of green I've chosen is proving tricky to work with and I now see a lot of inspiration pictures on instagram making me regret my choice. You will see from the photo it's not horrible but the problem is I also want green lampshades, curtains, accessories etc. Which is too much bloody green. If I'd gone with a more neutral colour I could've had green as the accent! I'd repaint it right now but it's a big room and the paint was quite expensive, I got it from Valspar at B&Q and they gave me heavy duty instead of normal so it was a bit dear.

What do I do, repaint the room or just deal with it. I think I want cream carpet but don't really want cream curtains, it's a bit plain. I actually want deep blood red curtains but most people in my life are telling me they will look awful!

Is this Pistachio Coookie by any chance? If so, I know someone with this in their living room and they have a type of psychedelic print mural wallpaper on one wall. We loved it so much for our babys room. So probably not much help as ive only seen it used for bold/colourful rooms.

It’s awful sorry op. Can you paint it white and leave maybe one wall green? Like a feature wall. It reminds me of a medical room setting - not a good one too.

Stay away from the deep red curtains. Re the green walls the only thing that I can think of is to put up loads of art and mirrors. Break it up. You could even get a clothes rail and put it along a wall and hang some blouses. This would bring in texture.

It's a gorgeous colour. I would go cream carpet, cream pattern curtains with maybe a touch of green in them. One wall I would use as a gallery, photos, pictures, framed in white/ cream-any accent colour to make that wall seem less green.

I quite like it. I think it would be calming.

That having been said, almost my entire house is painted in Egyptian Cotton Lol

Yep currently a totally empty room which is probably not helping, the wardrobe will cover a big chunk as will all my pictures!

It's called Young Cactus so a bit more muted, Pistachio Cookie was probably on the list of contenders though. I had about 20 swatches of green at one stage 😂

I LOVE green too and a lot of my house is also green but I'd find this a little too far too the kids room colours and would find it a bit much for a bedroom (even though I'm sat in an orange and green living room 🫢)
I'd go either darker, mossier or more sage.
It's personal preference though.

Funny isn't it that when I was growing up green paint and green wallpaper were viewed with horror because of their historic arsenic content. Nobody that we knew would think of having green walls, and especially not in the bedroom!

Personally I feel if you like green and can live with it then your bedroom is fine but not for me. I would repaint in yellow. But then i have virtually every room in my house in various shades of yellow as I find it soothing and relaxing and mood enhancing.. But I i don't go as far as accesorising the rooms in yellow. The lampshades and blinds etc are in creams and browns and other various subtle contrasting colours

This is a much nicer shade of green. Depending on the room size and lighting I would do 2 walls a colour like this and the other 2 walls in Cotton white by Dulux or something similar.

Could you leave it as one accent wall? And go for an off white green on the others? That’s what we did in our bedroom and I love it! We also have a green glass lampshade and green bedding.

I would choose cream curtains and bring in wood and light tan leather (maybe in a dressing table chair), I think by layering textures and natural materials it would still be very green, but not boring.

however you’ve said you don’t want cream, I actually think a dark forest green for curtains and bedding could look lovely and rich and cosy, you just need to be careful on the tone of it. From this one photo I’d make sure it was a true ‘dull’ dark mossy green, rather than one that leans toward teal/blue as that would be a bit bright for me, but the colours may be a bit different in real life

I think it’s beautiful. You need to add some other colours, yes; cream carpet great but not cream curtains, too dull. Go onto the Little greene website and see what they show as contrast or accent colours to go with a similar green. Do the same on the farrow and ball site. This will give you ideas for curtains.

Do not listen to the fun sponges who tell you to paint it white. Colour is joy.

Add pale pink in there somewhere. I think it's great with any green colour.

Repaint it, it’s just a bit too minty for me! I would go for more of a sage.

I quite like it but you couldn't have red or green curtains with it. Maybe cream with a green motif/ pattern? Also how big is the room? It could be quite oppressive for a small room to have all the walls this colour. And what will you have on the floor?

I wouldn’t go with blood red, but pink and cream look great with green and will help break it up. Think about bedding, as well as the curtains, other furniture, art and don’t give up!

I love it, but am finding it hard to imagine blood red curtains working with that shade. I think cream, a greenish off white, and mid to dark wood will look good with it. Velvet curtains in a really dark red might work??? Or a really dark green?

Which way does your room face? If it’s North it can make a cool colour look a bit bleak?

You could perhaps overpaint it in a warmer green? I love the Dulux Heritage colours and would work well with a cream carpet. You could get some curtains (maybe a print with blood red hints in it and shades of dark green).

I think it really depends on your furniture. I have dark, antique wooden furnitures and loads of paintings, so this colour could work in my home.

If you have more of an IKEA/beige/grey style, though, I don’t think it works.

An olive or sage green would be perfect for a bedroom. This shade is more kids room green and it's not calming in the slightest. It goes with very little else because it's so stark. At least with a muted green you can match it with other colours without it being too in your face.

I’d repaint it, it looks an awful colour for a bedroom, nothing peaceful, calm or relaxing about it. There are much nicer shades of green. You will never be happy with the room, I had the same experience with a different colour and after a few days looking at it, I got it re-painted.
