AIBU sleeping arrangement

I’m visiting my parents this weekend, as are my 2 sisters (we’re all adults 23,29 and 32). I’m bringing my husband, sisters are going alone. I’m currently 19 weeks pregnant with twins, this is relevant.
all the bedrooms have a single bed in them, prior to pregnancy id just share with my husband and we’d have a bad nights sleep but get over it. Now im pregnant sleeping is a bit more uncomfortable and I need a pillow under my belly etc. so someone has to sleep on the sofa. I can’t make hubby sleep on the sofa because the living room is the walk way through to the kitchen so he’d have no privacy. So the options are for pregnant me or my sisters to go on the sofa. I’ve asked both my sisters if they’d give their bed up for me, they’ve both said no. My one sister even had a tantrum over it and said she just won’t visit if I’m going to take “her” bed (bear in mind she hasn’t lived at my parents house for 7 years).
I’m feeling a little disappointed in my sisters and that they wouldn’t let their pregnant sister have a bed for a weekend. My parents have offered their bed to my husband and I as a result but it doesn’t seem fair as they are both older and need the bed too.
Am I being unreasonable expecting someone to give up a bed for me? I would never ask at any other time in my life, it’s just one weekend during my pregnancy.

Maybe suggest to your mum and dad that having get-togethers with all of you in a tiny bungalow when there isn't enough room isn't working.
it could be your two sisters one weekend then you and your husband another time. They might like you all at the same time but their place is clearly not big enough for six adults all at once.

Merrymoonage · Yesterday 14:32

Is there an actual reason all siblings need to be there on the same weekend?

strawberrylemons · Yesterday 14:32

So your mother would prefer her pregnant daughter slept on the sofa to avoid any inconvenience of her son in law, sorry guest?

I’m going to call BS on that.

No, my mother thinks my sister should be on the sofa.
its always been the case then when a guest stays over (family or not!!) one of us sisters is booted out of our room for them and that has continued into adulthood ha

Yes both my parents and I have the same view

Sounds like your parents need to grow a pair and make some decisions about what is happening in their own home, rather that let people who don’t even live there fight it out.

Yes, someone is very unwell

Wish people would RTFT!

Your sisters are being dicks. Guess neither have ever been pregnant?

Your parents need to stand up to your sisters. No way should you be sleeping on the sofa!

He does have a private space, the room is available.

He can sleep on a sleeping bag on the floor.

It sounds like you have resentment towards your sisters and you’re using your pregnancy to finally get one over on them.

Haha, this is genuinely hilarious. Yes, OP has clearly spent the last 30 years secretly harbouring resentment towards her sister, only to finally unleash her master plan: getting pregnant and asking for a bed for the night. What a diabolical way to “punish” someone.

Jesus Christ, the amount of amateur psychology happening in this thread is incredible. Thank you for your highly qualified assessment of OP’s childhood, family relationships and deepest motivations, all based on a few paragraphs on Mumsnet. I’m sure your completely unsolicited diagnosis has finally solved the case.

They are doing that, im simply just venting about my sister, i didnt say anyone was fighting over it…

You’re being very precious about your husband not sleeping on the sofa.

Heronwatcher · Yesterday 14:36

Ok last try- couldn’t someone get rid of the big old wardrobe in one of the single rooms before you visit? Surely that’s going to need to go anyway over time?

Ally886 · Yesterday 14:36

WhatHappenedToYourFurnitureCuz · Yesterday 14:25

Nice try, but the OP seems very confident that she'll be on the sofa while this prince among men takes her bed.

Of course she's confident!

She'll make him do whatever makes her the martyr!

No doubt he will do as he's told for an easy weekend

But why should her sisters have to give up their beds for OP's delicate husband?

And OP and husband are bringing multiple dogs so it can't be that small.

Opinionsprettyplease · Yesterday 14:37

Op honestly, wouldn't your husband be more comfortable in the long term visiting your parents if he was allowed to become one of the family? Allowed to muck in? Rather than being placed at arms length on some ridiculous pedestal? If he's the decent bloke you are saying he is, you are doing him a huge injustice here.

mulberrymilk · Yesterday 14:37

Yes, someone is very unwell

Surely that puts your oh no my husband cannot possibly sleep on the sofa unreasonableness into stark contrast with something that actually matters?

Not 30 years 🙄 But OP is remembering an incident on holiday where she had to sleep on the floor, and she wants her sisters to make it up to her by giving up their room now.

So it’s not amateur psychology, it’s basic deduction.

You clearly haven’t read the thread.

You must love to hate men, thinking they lack agency or are so selfish they'll let their pregnant wife sleep on a sofa while they take her bed.

Merrymoonage · Yesterday 14:39

Yes, someone is very unwell

Even less reason for a relative to be deprioritised over a “guest”. Your sisters are home to visit an unwell relative, your DH is only there because you need a chauffeur, so he takes the sofa.

Just buy a second hand bunk bed!?

Actually, the situation isn’t that big of a deal in real life, it’s been blown up massively on here. I’m not worried at all, neither are my family. It was a simple vent after talking to my sister and it has become a whole different situation on mumsnet

my husband isn’t having anyone’s room, he’s in my room, with our dogs. I was just hopeful I could have my sisters room over the sofa but that isn’t an option so im having the sofa. I’m really not THAT precious about it, it was just a bit annoying that’s all

Wait, there's dogs?! If there is no room for an airbed, where are the dogs sleeping in the room? Can't they go into kennels for the weekend and your husband can sleep in that space?

Also, stop infantalising your husband. He can stay up until 11pm for a couple of nights, he's not a baby that needs his sleep! You also say he's part of the family, yet you also say he's a guest. Which is he? I'd be really insulted if I went to my in-laws and was considered a guest. I'm one of the family, so if that means I'm on the sofa because it makes the most sense, then I'm on the sofa. I would be insulted for anyone else to be put out for me. You are doing your husband a disservice by making him the outsider.

Sirzy · Yesterday 14:40

Given it sounds like the house isn’t going to be suitable to stay at with twins seems like this could be a good time to find an air b and b or hotel which you can use for future trips!

changenameagain555 · Yesterday 14:40

Well if you'd have to share the single bed with your dogs anyway maybe the sofa will be comfier for you 😂

Inertia · Yesterday 14:41

If all of the sisters have left home, what’s in the wardrobe? Presumably the house contains less in the way of clothing/ shoes/ bags/ toys/ personal possessions than it did when all 3 sisters lived there.

If the wardrobe is permanently removed from the slightly bigger room, then that room could fit an airbed (possibly a small double in the longer term) .

redskyAtNigh · Yesterday 14:41

I am fast coming round to the idea that sleeping on the sofa is actually preferable to sleeping in a bedroom that's just about big enough for a single bed and a narrow walkway (presumably where any items they take with them are going to have to live) especially when OP throws in that there are also dogs (plural) sleeping there.

Therefore I think the sisters are actually being rather generous in allowing OP to sleep in the lounge as it's much the biggest space and there is easy access to the kitchen and the garden and the toilet (without disturbing animals).

Merrymoonage · Yesterday 14:41

thelegacyofdragons · Yesterday 14:40

Just buy a second hand bunk bed!?

She forgot to mention every single room had 2ft ceilings. There’s no way there’s any other solution than her sister moving out of her room.
