Lingering cough in 4 year old

Dd4 has had a cough for coming up 3 weeks. It’s quite a chesty cough especially at night but at no point has she been unwell in herself. Still playing like normal and eating, no temperature. But it is definitely lingering. I thought it improved last week but it’s back again now. Not constant but regular coughs at worse at night.

NHS guidance says to see a Dr if a cough persists beyond 3-4 weeks but if she is otherwise well would they even do anything? Could it be that she’s picked up another cough rather than it being the same one?

Had the same issue with my 16 month old, went on for a month. No other signs of illness, eating, playing away but a dry chesty cough. Very bad at night but random in the daytime. Took her to the doc, all fine. I only realised after reading this, she hasnt coughed in a week. They said it was prob tail end of a bug and it very mild

This sounds mad so disregard it if you wish, however I swear by it.
Quarter an onion and put it near your head in a bowl while you sleep.
It seems to draw out the cough and softens it.
Throw it in the bed in the morning.
Do it for a couple of nights.
Twice tends to be enough.
My kids never liked the smell but I still do it even as they are young adults because it strangely works.
